I agree they look good. One thing to note is that the material is not mostly wood unlike the Hemnes model.

Not who you responded to but I've had a Hemnes dresser for about 6 years now and its been perfect. Aside from getting dinged it still looks brand new.

I have the tall 6 drawer and it is quite nice. A step or two above things like the classic Malm.

Easy to recommend at this price!

I have two of the night stands as well which have been great.

Even my Hemnes formed a bow in the middle not more than 6 months after being put into normal use, sadly.

Ouch. I was going to buy Hemnes for the real wood reason but a bow is bad especially for real wood. BTW, is the bow at the top or at the bottom? Do you think adding another leg at the center would remedy this?
In another Ikea thread, someone mentioned about how ikea sources their wood material and that it could be younger trees and thus softer wood. They said this more in context of dings that the furniture could get but I wonder if this is not also a cause for bowing - though another poster just talk about an opposite experience.

I have the dresser and I like it. IMO it's a step up from the Hemmes in term of appearance (maybe not materials...I have 2 Hemmes too) and more importantly for me, the drawer rails have soft-closing - but the one thing that I was disappointed about is that the drawers do not fully open due to the design of the rails, so just something to keep in mind.

The website said that it must be attached to the wall with tools provided. That's odd to me? If you bought this, can you explain?

Just bought a couple of Idanes in brown for the same price a few weeks ago - mostly for the soft close drawer. They also seemed to be a little higher quality than Hermes in the store, but I'm just a customer, idk.

It's to stop the dresser from falling forward and crushing a little person climbing it. It's a required warning on most furniture these days.

Ikea lost a lawsuit awhile ago where one of their dressers fell over and killed a kid, so now they are obsessed with safety warnings regarding anchoring stuff to the wall (which almost no one does).

I just bought the 6 drawer dresser and assembled it last weekend and am very happy with it so far. It's not 100% wood but looks great and was by far the easiest assembly I've done for a dresser. I've done 2 Hemnes dressers and they are nice but took me a good 4 hours to assemble (each). The Idanas just was really well designed and thought out for ease of assembly and it took maybe 2 hrs max. Time will tell how long it lasts but for $300 it's a really good deal.

Yeah. just came back from buying one and i had to fill out form on the screen(self check out) about a safety agreement. I figured Ikea lost a lawsuit and I guess it was exactly the case as you say. They have provided these warnings before because kids may climb the drawers. since they provided these warnings in the manual, their website and in the store but I guess there is not much then can do if the lawsuit puts the fault at the design of the product and get money from a company. Now you have to sign an agreement that the product can cause a safety issue and you can't sue them.

I have 3 Hemnes chest and 1 dresser and have had no issues other than some minor surface finish problems. One during cover started peeling on a drawer face and one last week had a protruding knot right in the middle of the draw face. Both were white stain. The black/brown looks fine. Structurally I have has 0 issues.

The guest room has some Brimnes drawers and night stands and while noticeably cheaper looking they are still nice. We just figured the wood Hemnes would last a long longer with daily use.

"not mostly wood"? Is that a good or bad thing?
Quote from wazzuper1 :
The Hemnes dressers are made of real wood (not crappy MDF) and are heavy. So those ones are quality. Not sure how this one compares.
Quote from willygee :
I see - that helps. How can you tell other than seeing person if it is solid wood vs MDF? Hemnes and Koppang (not sure what this one is made of but guessing MDF) are cheaper than Idanas so I would guess Idanas is also solid wood but website isnt clear I dont think (just says both are made of wood).

I just bought one of these and made the decision after seeing it in person. the description says it has some of that particle wood but the sidewall and the main cabinet itself was mostly wood and it's quite heavy. It's not 100% all wood (that would be the HEMNES which is more expensive) but it's definitely miles better than the MALM which is a lot of particle wood and cheaper, non-sturdy materials.

There is another drawer that's better than the MALM. it's called KOPPANG and it has better materials than the MALM. It was $159.99(regular $200) at the store but I think the sticker price was just for that particular location (Burbank, CA). The IDANAS is higher quality than the KOPPANG though and it's normally $599 (the darker wood color was not on sale).

Got the hemnes one like 6 years ago. Glad I got the glass top for it because it still looks brand new.

Don't pay attention to just one negative review - the Hemnes is well rated and I've heard mostly good things about it here on SD

As many others mentioned, I've had two Hemnes sets with no problems. One since 2008ish (currently in use by my MIL) and one since 2021 in my main bedroom. Absolutely no structural issues at all. Just don't fill a wide drawer full of books. The one issue is the soft wood can be susceptible to dings and scratches.

Does anyone know if they have the same discounted price at the store? They have restricted pickup time and I would rather go at my own time. TIA

They give you extra day to pick up the order. So you can plan to go on that day at any time.
