I think the hardcore people suggest starting with these entry level printers, but do yourself a favor and buy this or a Prusa otherwise 90% of your time in the hobby will be tweaking the printer. I just want to print, not be a printer technician.

I bought two ender 3 pro's years ago now during the $99 microcenter coupon deals. It got my foot in the door and hooked on 3d printing. It also in a way forces you to learn the fundamentals through the setup process and the inevitable issues that will arise. I'm glad that I went through that learning experience but at the same time I found myself not printing as much because of issues with this and that. If I had to do it over again today and planned on making 3d printing a hobby for the long term there's no doubt I'd save myself the headaches and get a bambu out of the gate. My only gripe with my bambu is parts availability has to be done through bambu themselves and more recently microcenter. Hopefully in the near future amazon is an option.

I own several Ender 3s, a CR-10, and a Voron. All have been tweaked to some extend and run well using klipper. I have to admit, at this point, tinkering is not at the top of my list and the idea of owning an Bambu printer is compelling but not at the prices I'm willing to pay. Call me cheap.

Yes, the P1P and P1S are incredibly attractive...if all you want to print are toys that soften in the sun. I'm into practical prints that can tolerate the outdoors and,, unfortunately, both printers are hamstrung with the artificial max bed temps (100). I prefer to use ABS and the 100 is the minimum I need to prevent warping, much less adhesion. Sure, I can jump through hoops to make these two printers work but then, I can do that for less money on my enders.

In regards to time, I'm not a print factory and can wait, especially to maximize layer adhesion for said functional parts.

What I would do is wait for the next iteration when parts will become more available and someone cracks that nut and allows us to manipulate the temps however we want. Until, I'm pressing the pause button.

If you don't need speed and multiple colors, there are better options for less money

What about ease of use? I mostly want something that minimizes the tinkering required

Saw a great deal on the Ender 3 v3 SE this morning, they have come a long way in the entry-level space with this model as it includes some excellent QoL features where it just prints right out of the box with barely any tinkering.

I spent an entire week straight printing PETG parts on it preparing a drybox and some upgrades for my Prusa XL 5-head, which I'm now back to tinkering on since the firmware/slicer are pretty alpha.

Keeping a close eye on Bamboo deals just in case, but just wanted to note how impressed I've been with some of the newer entry-level machines coming out with things we never had in the old days like auto-bed meshing.

Bed temp is better on the X1 right?

Lol, I'm sure you actually, really do.
I'm actually pondering buying an Ender 3 as an entry to 3D printing.

What's the one think you don't like about the V3.
If you want to constantly readjust and re-calibrate and retest then reset and restart, then Ender is a great product for you. Ask me how I know.

Awesome! Really didnt think they'd do a BF discount on printers, but glad they did! Just ordered another P1S w/ AMS! Funny, itll probably get to me before the Mini A1 I pre-ordered does!

Well, $539 isn't that huge of a 'sale', i bought 2 at work for $599 straight from bambu, and their filament is highly overpriced, but that said it is the easiest printer to use, apart from cleaning the print bed once in a while it's a fantastic printer.

I have an Ender 5 S1 at home that supposedly can print as fast as the p1p (250mms) but it doesn't even get close. The P1P is blazingly fast and have very few mishaps.

However, the AMS wastes a decent amount of filament in addition to printing a purge-tower for each color change in your print (so if your color change is in the top of the print, it'll print a tower up until the last color change.). I have played around with the settings a bit but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

If I was to buy another printer I would get a P1P with the AMS,but note that the AMS can't print soft filament (TPU) and it can't mix Petg with pla in one layer.

Happy friday

I cannot recommend these printers enough. I bought the P1P at launch, and honestly I should have just bought the X1. I ended up buying upgraded parts (hardened steel nozzle, support pieces, aux fan, etc) and sides, which are all standard on the X1 at a cheaper price.

I can't imagine not using the AMS... I use multiple colors on damn near everything I print.

Disclaimer: Make sure you have a very solid surface to set the printer on, this thing is a Tasmanian Devil when printing at full speed. Oh and have LOTS of room for filament spools and vacuum seal bags. I assume I'm not the only one with dozens and dozens of spools of different colors stacked up. Smilie

i do. i have an ender 3 that i'm sick of
Thats the reason I got a P1P as the original ender 3 was just not fun anymore when I spent more time tinkering than making things.

The new Ender 3 v3 +Raspberry pi with Octoprint. Might be a good alternative for you as the auto bed leveling solves most of the gripes from the original.

Yep...I was waiting for this discount to pull the trigger on an X1. I've had an upgraded Ender 3 Pro for years now and I find that I don't print as much as I'd like due to the hassles. I finally convinced myself to open the wallet due to all of the posts/videos/etc. exclaiming "it just works".
That was my reasonoing to pick up a p1p as the ender 3 was collecting dust as it wasn't worth my time anymore for hassle with.

New Ender 3 v3 I think has less hassle and a great entry for folks into the hobby.

That's really tempting, should probably stick to my original plan of put the Creality K1 I have in transit through its paces before pulling the trigger on Bambu. Even picked up an open box but unused Neptune 3 Pro after I ordered the K1 and that's been night and day from the Ender 3 Pros I'm moving on from. I'm still sure the P1 is great but still having a hard time going to that price point and the closed platform caveats until I'm absolutely sure I would "need" to.
Closed platform is double edge sword. I am glad I have my P1P but I do wish it was open to do more. Enjoy your K1 and the savings!
