This is the full bundle with the pen. Also includes a year of 365 Family.

I bought one of these 8GB bundles this spring and it's great for browsing or light business trips as a compliment to a more powerful machine back home. Would not recommend as a primary device, but at this price it's far more usable and compelling than an iPad Pro.

I bought it. I had a older i7 6th Gen 8gb book 2. And it worked great.

This is not a gamers model. Yes I'd love 16gb but you can't beat the price. And the extras alone are worth close to 300 plus.

A few reasons to reconsider:
- 8GB is inadequate. (Typing this on an 8GB Surface Pro 7... Never again!)
- The i5 models have a "fanless" design. This is a terrible design decision. I need to run a small desk fan behind mine. Otherwise it gets throttled within 3-5 minutes of turning it on, and you get the performance of a CPU from the year 2000...
- The black also scratches up really bad. (It's aluminum under the thin coating.) My wife has a black SP7. Bad decision.
- 3-4 hr battery life in reality. (Look it up on Reddit if you believe MS instead of me... The 12 hr claim is ludicrous.)

If you can live with their many compromises, SPs are the best portable productivity laptops. I've been rocking them for eight years now. Would love to ditch them, alas there is nothing better. So I just travel with a 65W power bank.

I have no idea what you are doing on your Surface to create so much heat, but I think whatever it is you should be using a desktop computer. As far as the scratching, all Surfaces prior to the Surface Pro 8 are magnesium, not aluminum.

Surfing the web, writing email and Word documents, watching YouTube. I'm using it docked with two external 4K displays when at my desk (the SP7's screen own screen is switched off). It needs a fan bad.

And yes, they were magnesium alloy indeed. It's the same silver color showing from under the thin coating. It's a really, really ugly look only after a couple business trips.

I had a Surface Pro X in black for one day. I sent it back, it was the worst fingerprint magnet I've ever seen.

I have Surface Pro 8 in black for personal use and we've deployed a dozen or more 8's and and 9's at work for some of our execs and some highly mobile Sales and IT Project Managers. I have no evidence to back your assertion about scratching as you've described. Mine's over a year old and still in excellent condition, not scratched, no aluminum showing through. The ones I see on the regular at work, also not showing the proclivity to scratching as described and many are NOT kept in cases. If it's such an issue for you or someone else, there's things like cases to place them in. Mine's not and I primarily use it as a tablet (without the keyboard).

But, I suppose without a case and casually tossing into a bag with other hard items, keys, pens with metal clips&tips, etc.? Sure thing. Welcome to the science of hardness where the harder object always wins. For travel, most people I've seen are tossing them into a softside sleeve/case but using them without an always-on case.

Great to see they improved them. My wife's black SP7 looks awful.
