Looking for some advice from others who know more...

Would the AP-1512 be for bedrooms/offices and the 300 be suitable for a living room / kitchen area?

I'm forever staying away from this brand. I have 2 units which are a different model but it's a wifi version and there is absolutely no way to factory reset it. None. Can't clear out the old wifi settings and the company has horrendous customer support. If you purchase, hopefully you don't run into any issues. I think mine is the 300

Exactly. I did a lot of research and purchased a 1512 for bedrooms and smaller common spaces, and then I have the 400 for our downstairs living/kitchen area.

Definitely have heard the WiFi versions are terrible. I have bought all non-wifi models and so far they have been great.

Consistently the #1 pick on WireCutter . Getting one for the bedroom because you can turn off the lights on this. I have a couple of Costco Winix air purifiers in main rooms but those you can't turn the lights off.

While it detracts a bit from the aesthetic, you can put some black electrical tape over the LEDs to hide the lights at night.

I did this for my Winix and the Costco models (and anything else in the house, really... Blue light at night is awful).

The difference is the volume of air each unit can push through their filters ... the 300 is 2x as powerful as the 1512 in that sense so it will take less time for it to cycle the air in a room (the 1512 will have to run on its highest and loudest setting to try and keep up with the 300). My daughter has a 300 in her 900sqft studio apartment and I have a 1512 or a Winix 5500 in each of the bedrooms in my house. I'm using a BlueAir 211 (comparable to the 300) for my larger living room.

It's true. I have a black wifi and white non-wifi. The purifiers work great. The app is useless. The wifi model just functions like my non wifi model now.
The app always wants ridiculous permissions and was bugged and broken. The air quality monitoring reports don't mean much. I haven't had the app installed in forever.
