Funny, no one's mentioned that these printers can be used totally on a local network without connecting to their cloud at all.

The only thing I disagree with is their impact on 3d printing community is actually very positive.

3d printer designs have been stagnant for 3-4 years, they brought some good competition to market (think tesla).
You don't have to like it, or support them, but without them I doubt you'd see so many competing coreXY klipper based machines out there.

There are other uses for the AMS.
1) Dry box for open spools.
2) Keep an extra spool of the same color filament and have it automagically use the next same color spool for long prints.
3) Multicolor by layers. It minimizes waste and you don't have to manually switch colors at layers.

Microcenter is not fully matching it with a $899 sale, but you get it immediately if you live nearby one. ie pay $15 more for immediate pick up. They also have a 30 day price protection so any of you bought recently should go back and ask for a $50 refund

Check with your store manager when you do that. I was told you only get one adjustment during the 30 day window. So if microcenter further drops price, say to match the $849 from Bambu site, you can't adjust price the second time.

300 for AMS is kind of steep. I wonder if I'm better off buying the printer alone and then upgrading to the AMS when/if it goes on sale

My local Microcenter denied the price match btw, def up to the manager, so YMMV!

Edit: Went physically and they price matched

It's $250 for ams in combo or $350 bought separately.

Most of the reason to buy is for the ams. It's not necessarily for color prints. You can do multi-material, support interface material, and simply not having to change most-used filaments between prints.
