Funny, no one's mentioned that these printers can be used totally on a local network without connecting to their cloud at all.

The only thing I disagree with is their impact on 3d printing community is actually very positive.

3d printer designs have been stagnant for 3-4 years, they brought some good competition to market (think tesla).
You don't have to like it, or support them, but without them I doubt you'd see so many competing coreXY klipper based machines out there.

There are other uses for the AMS.
1) Dry box for open spools.
2) Keep an extra spool of the same color filament and have it automagically use the next same color spool for long prints.
3) Multicolor by layers. It minimizes waste and you don't have to manually switch colors at layers.

Newbie here. Whats AMS
Their "automatic material system", essentially makes printing multiple colors or multiple materials possible.

https://us.store.bambulab.com/pro...r-printing

Pretty usefull overall especially if being lazy but still wanting to print different materials. Note however, when printing in multiple colors, prints can take ten times longer and will waste a lot of material on the color change (purging previous plastic).

For more info, youtube has some pretty good reviews.

I bought mine a little over a week ago and did not know this. You may have just saved me $50!
It's $950 out the door at Microcenter and $950 after shipping and taxes on bambu's site. Either way you're paying the exact same. If MC won't price match to get the sale, saving me $50 then I'll tell them to have a nice day and that I'm spending my money directly to the company that actually made the device. Then proceed to turn around and walk out of their store..

I understand that we're not talking about the same $50 here... Mine was more of a general comment rather than a reply, my bad.

300 for AMS is kind of steep. I wonder if I'm better off buying the printer alone and then upgrading to the AMS when/if it goes on sale
Ams is not steep at all imo It's worth more than 300
Mosaic palette was $900 I think $800 now and it sucks in comparison to ams

That's when you print continuously every day. For occasional hobby users like me, it's steep. For multi-color printing, an IDEX or a multi-extruder printer is the way to go in my opinion. Too much wasting of filaments and time with AMS, and the more complex a machine mechanism is, the more potential problems.

Good points. It all boils down to use case and need.

Agreed, plus AMS wastes too much filament, AMS is a hard pass for me

The AMS argument is valid about it wasting a lot of filament, but if you're printing multiples of the same thing at the same time then the waste is reduced drastically, so really it depends how you're using it.

My local Microcenter denied the price match btw, def up to the manager, so YMMV!

Edit: Went physically and they price matched
Nice to hear. I thought Micro Center's policy was to match internet pricing if from an approved vendor. Glad they didn't give you much of a fight Smilie.

Usually if it's too low they won't, at least that's why I was initially denied I assume, since I've heard of other denials before too.

When Bamboo stops forcing users to pass their prints through CCP servers and allow offline and app free printing, I may consider one. But by then Creality will have the market taken by its own ams series.

I don't like the Bamboo cloud.

So you know if Creality working on a competitor to the AMS?

Give them time to steal PRUSA's new system they developed for the MK4 with MMU3 that wastes almost no filament in color changes. It's what Bambu labs does - steal and spy.
