Would definitely get this if this had USB-C charging. Just that e-waste from big charging bricks.

my dell with a 10th gen intel does not specifically say it can charge usbc and came with a normal dell brick
but it will charge when i plug in a usbc and the symbol next to is is only the dp logo.
hard to believe this wont do the same thing, but i dont have any proof
this is a great price for a 12th gen but ive grown to accustomed to touch screens in my laptops

IPS panel? No
VA panel? No
TN panel? It's complicated

I posted this info in the previous thread for this laptop.

It's a WVA panel, not VA. For some reason there isn't a lot of info regarding WVA technology on the web, but I did find some good info from Lenovo;
Quote :
What is an WVA Display?
WVA displays are highly popular for their eye-catching color and wide viewing angles.
Quote :
WVA vs. TN displays: What's the difference?
WVA and TN are different kinds of TFT LCDs (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Displays).
More info here [lenovo.com], and it's the same for Dell. In short, WVA are better than TN but subpar compared to VA and IPS.

Lol at the nonsense, WVA is IPS panels. No laptops use VA panels these days, the nomenclature is misleading but WVA usually denotes cheaper IPS panels with 60% sRGB vs the better ones with 100% sRGB or ideally DCi-P3 and basic HDR support.

Lol, if it was IPS they would call it IPS, and I sure didn't call it VA. Also, somebody should tell Lenovo they are wrong.

Should be able to output at QHD since the USB-C port is DisplayPort 1.4 compatible.
I might be missing something. If the resolution of this laptop is FHD, how does the USB-C port connection to DisplayPort 1.4 turn it into QHD?

Outputting at a different resolution on the second display.

Can this be done over HDMI? Some posters have mentioned that USB-C is not available for this model.

Output to a second display sure. But not at a higher resolution per Dell's specs for this model:

1 HDMI 1.4 port (Maximum resolution supported over HDMI is 1920x1080 @60Hz. No 4K/2K output)

Hello! Is this a suitable online gaming laptop for a teen? Thanks in advance for helping a non-tech mom out! Trying to find an affordable option.

No, it's not. Not for many games that are popular anyway.

This is at a minimum what you would want for a gaming teen but it's $450. A much higher price point.

the most disappointing thing about these low end computers is how they're basically "disposable" - after a year or MAX 3, due to updates, it becomes too slow. Wish you could upgrade the CPU like RAM. Would be nice both money-wise and enviro-wise....

You actually get better value from buying a higher end laptop and running that into the ground or until updates stop being deployed.
Need to buy a computer for parents but this definitely won't allow (fast) remote fixing LOL

This i3-1215U actually has slightly faster single threaded performance than the i7-1255U. Check cbubenchmark.net. Probably because it has less cores and so the fewer cores can run at a higher clock speed before the whole thing reaches the thermal limit. Add another 8 GB SO-DIMM yourself after you get it and you are all set for under $250 + ~$20. Even better if you are using a nice external 4K monitor and mechanical keybaord.

Hmm, not sure what the source is for the person that wrote those takeaways is but according to many forums and dell chat WVA stands for Wide Viewing Angle (not to be confused with VA which means vertical alignment). According to Dell, WVA is a generic term that can be used for an IPS screen. Not sure why there is so much conflicting info on this but for what it's worth I had this laptop and the screen does appear to be an IPS. Maybe it's not, but to the eye it looks like it. Not the best quality screen but better than most budget screens out there.
How is the heat output on this under light to medium load?

Would you mind recommending a good (compatible) 8GB RAM to add onto this laptop? Thanks.

Thank you very much. I ended up going with the one you linked. She is only a light gamer so I think this will be perfect. Appreciate your advice!
