No you don't... PlayStation edition simply means it has the PlayStation symbols for buttons and works with PS remote play (to use PS remote play you do need a PlayStation) you can use it on Android with compatible games and apps.

Careful in ordering online. Picked up at Target for the iPhone usb-c and all 4 on the shelf were version 1's. I had to cancelled my order. Since there's no distinction when ordering online, it's a hit or miss.

I bought this from Amazon and it works great as a controller over my S23U's slim phone case. However, don't expect to get any of the advertised features on android because the app does not work for me. Backbone app stays stuck in setup. I googled it and apparently the same for some iPhone users since 2 years ago. If you're fine with that, great controller but if you're not, I'd look elsewhere. The software for this thing is broken and if they haven't fixed after 2 years, doubt they will anytime soon or ever.

Yeah, so looks like you have the older version. The newer one wasn't announced until Nov 2023.

Also, for anyone else that ordered theirs online at Target, make sure to double check which version you received. I got a BB-51-W-S v1 with a MFG date of 08/2023 which is just around the time the gen 2 ones were announced. The Q&A of Target originally had replies to a question indicating that it was Gen 2, but after I posted my question (still pending) they've now removed their answers, lol.
