Costco had the 128GB w/Ethernet model for $100 back in August. Holding for a deal on that.

Question for all,

I have one of these(ethernet); used it on an old TV that didn't have Apple TV.

What's the difference between this is an built in Apple TV? like apps, NFL etc?

Thanks

I had to return the 3rd gen 4k w/ethernet. I think i had a dud cuz my 2nd gen is still flawless on all tvs i tried it on. The 3rd gen on the other hand had all sorts of stuttering/snow flecks/reboots on multiple tvs and cables. Hoping to get the ethernet model again at costco if/when it drops to $119 again.

Same, but with this model being on sale for $100 I'm not too optimistic. Here's hoping!

The User interface is pretty smooth, won't lag when you are moving around within the app. The processor in this device is equilant to what they have in iPhone 14 series.

The App that comes on your tv, is limited to the processing speed of your TV which will always be inferior to a dedicated device like this.

Plus if you are in apple ecosystem, this thing is awesome.

I think you are confusing the Apple TV app (which is similar to Netflix, Hulu or Disney+ - but with far less selection) with the Apple TV device (which is similar to a Fire TV stick or Roku - but generally considered better than those).

This deal is for the Apple TV device. Plug it into your TV and use it to access the Apple TV app, Netflix, Amazon Prime and all the otherTV "apps" you subscribe to. Also use it for the Music app (if you subscribe to Apple Music), to Airplay from your phone to your TV, and use Homekit if you have home automation.

TV brand made operating systems have gotten better over the years but the apps do not get updated as much and you'll eventually start seeing lag or lack of features. I believe Apple TV even gets updates before android tv apps. When you think about a business, these companies will focus on their biggest money makers first.

No tv has built in Apple TV.

They might have a built in streaming platform that will allow you to download apps, but no tv interface will be as good as a dedicated box.

Either Apple TV box or Nvidia Shield are the two best streaming boxes. They're well worth it if you have a nice tv.

The apple tv is the best streaming device out right now if you want a clean interface with little to no lag & no advertising everywhere like you get with android tvs/firesticks.

Not to mention the ecosystem integration. Screen mirroring, facetime, homekit, etc.

Switched from a nvidia shield pro to the apple tv about a year ago and haven't looked back. Shield's constant lag/buginess combined with Google's intrusive advertising insertion was too much to bear.
