For anyone on the ad free plan already just log in to the website and go through the cancel flow. Then right before cancelling they will offer you the $2.99 plan.

Just say no. Don't give Zazlov the subscriber #s he so desperately needs. He is destroying the business.

just so you know, if you cancelled once before and you accept a new deal earlier this year, when you go to cancel this time, you will be cancelled and not offered a renewal again. you'll need to create a new account.

I cancelled my MAX through direct tv, and i had a special rate. When I tried to sign up with the 2.99 black friday special it says I still have an account. I said no I do not then I was told the account is active through the billing cycle even though it was cancelled. But, I can't get hbo on my tv so it has to be cancelled. Now I have nothing for MAX . Makes no sense.
Use a different email address and it will work.

Hi! I also have HBO through DIRECTV as part of an offer. We watch HBO on a Firet TV that is telling me I can get only 2 months at $2.99
Based on what you found, will I even get the offer? Did they make a distinction between MAX and HBO on DTV (I know it's the same company/service) but since it's being served on a Fire TV I'm not sure what to do. To make it more confusing the DTV is in my name, the Prime Account hooked to the fire is in my husbands. Yikes.
Anyone know how I can even do this? Like, if my husband signs up for his tablet NOW, can we use his login on the Fire TV after my deal is over on DIRECTV and I cancel on 12/7?
So. Complicated...
BTW, I tried Max chat and it was a joke. Hopefully you guys can help me!

My recommendations for newer content (yes I'm a dude with a wife that doesn't like romantic comedies, period pieces, and dramas):

The Meg 2
Blue Beetle
Shazam movies (stupid, but funny)
The Flash
Peacemaker (John Cena spin off of suicide squad)
A Christmas Story Christmas (for nostalgia of the original)
of course all the Game of Thrones stuff and spinoff that you probably already watched.
Chernobyl
The Last of Us

If you don't get the offer, do like other people did - just create a new email account. And they use it just for the streaming of Max So they can get the offer

Do commercials cut into movies or play prior like Peacock? Thanks.

I had HBO forever and for a long time $15/month was honestly underpriced. Now, I look at Max and ask myself is it worth $3/month? Maybe....probably not.
Agreed. I never thought hbo just needed more reality dating shows and the like.

Yes, the chat was a joke. That was my exact situation. After long holds on the phone with max and direct tv the only way to get around this is to create a new account with a new email. Or you would not be able to get the offer. I regret cancelling my HBO through direct tv because now i can only watch it through streaming with this offer.

it's also offered on prime for $2.99/mo but only for two months, might be able to use digital credits though. They also have mgm+ for $1.50/mo for two months and others like paramont+ etc.

HBO is slick, 6 months subscription, it will be over by the time their biggest show comes out at the end of the summer.

I would be fine with ad vs ad free etc and all the deals except you have to pay the $20 to have 4k at all which imo should be baseline.

Not providing 4k to the lower tiers is just being a dick to subscribers.

I will never pay a subscription for a service that will still show me ads. This is a tactic to reel you in and get your auto pay set up so that a) they can demonstrate the boost in subs as proof that people are willing to pay for ad supported tiers and b) they will slowly but surely increase the price of this too, the end goal being to bring us right back to where we were with cable, paying for a load of useless fluff while being barraged with ads with only a sprinkle of worthwhile content in between.

Do not help them prove that people are willing to pay for ads. Consider putting the money towards a VPN service instead and embark on the high seas with the black flag. Or contact that IT person we all know and ask for access to their Plex server. This is a matter of principle. And don't forget, ISPs and media conglomerates are still desperately trying to lobby to eradicate the only shred of internet privacy we have left so that VPNs, too, will be rendered useless and ISPs will be able to see your web traffic through them
