Are you talking about the Dell Inspiron 3520 (Intel) i5 deal that is also priced at $330 before discounts (e.g., 10% off) here [dell.com]?

Why would you get the i5 version over this deal? I did my own comparison analysis, and found that there's tradeoffs between the two versions. See below for details.

Comparison Analysis of Dell Inspiron 3520 (Intel) vs. 3535 (AMD)

Processor

3520: Features the 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1235U with 10 cores, 12 threads, and up to 4.40 GHz Turbo.
3535: Equipped with the AMD Ryzen™ 5 7530U, a 6-core 12-thread processor.
Analysis: The AMD Ryzen™ 5 7530U in the 3535 delivers faster performance according to benchmarks [cpubenchmark.net], and it is expected to offer better battery life.

Graphics

3520: Utilizes Intel® UHD Graphics.
3535: Comes with AMD Radeon™ Graphics.
Analysis: AMD Radeon™ Graphics in the 3535 is better.

Memory

3520: Offers 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) of DDR4 memory at 2666 MT/s.
3535: Also provides 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) but at a faster 3200 MT/s.
Analysis: The 3535 has marginally better memory speed, which might not be a significant factor if planning to upgrade memory.

Storage

3520: Includes a 256 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
3535: Doubles the storage with a 512 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
Analysis: The 3535 offers more storage.

Display

3520: Features a 15.6" FHD 1920x1080 display with a higher refresh rate of 120Hz, WVA, Non-Touch, Anti-Glare, 250 nit, and a Narrow Border LED-Backlit screen.
3535: Also has a 15.6" FHD 1920x1080 display but with a 60Hz refresh rate, WVA, Touchscreen, Anti-Glare, and Narrow Border LED-Backlit screen.
Analysis: The 3520 offers a higher refresh rate, ideal for smoother visuals, whereas the 3535 provides touchscreen functionality.

Wireless Connectivity

3520: Equipped with the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (2x2, 802.11ax) and Bluetooth®.
3535: Comes with Realtek Wi-Fi 5 RTL8821CE (1x1, 802.11ac, MU-MIMO) and Bluetooth®.
Analysis: The 3520's Intel wireless card is superior, offering better connectivity and speed. Also supports Wi-Fi 6. However, just like the memory and storage, this is also upgradeable.

In summary, the Dell Inspiron 3535 (AMD) excels in CPU performance, graphics, memory speed, and storage capacity, while the 3520 (Intel) has advantages in display refresh rate and wireless connectivity. Your choice may depend on what aspects are most critical for your usage, such as gaming, multitasking, or general productivity (e.g., the 3535 comes equipped with a touchscreen).

FWIW, I got the Intel 3520 from the last deal, but I'm not sure if it was the better purchase overall. Feel free to add anything I may have missed.

From the last DELL deal :-- sign-up for DELL Email updates and receive a one time unique promo code that takes 10% off. The code may take up to an hour to arrive in your inbox. It worked for me but YMMV. https://www.dell.com/preferences/signup

I just checked to see if the 10% coupon applied. It does.
I am not going to buy anything before year end. Too many old laptops already.
Unless there is a crazy deal before year end, I won't buy another laptop.
(Currently there are 7 old laptops that are working fine)

Just checking for now.

i bought the recent deal w/ i5-12xx for $400 after tax. Upon reflection, I think the i5 deal is better as the screen is 120hz and it comes with 16gb ram.

OP deal is superior in that the cpu is the latest generation, but IMO I don't think this matters much for standard desktop usage.

Cons for both (I presume) is that there is keyboard flex in the middle/anterior region. Surprised to find the inspirons are made of plastic, I didn't know that.
This CPU is the old Zen3 architecture which is basically a rebranded, slightly faster Ryzen 5625u. It's a shame AMD is playing with CPU names to confuse consumers. Cheeky bastards.

I bought this same model from Best Buy weeks ago. I would definitely get the i5 version over it. The Ryzen CPU is just a refresh of the previous generation with almost identical performance, though it is better than the i5. Also, it is locked and cannot be undervolted for better thermals and less noise.

That's not too hard if you count wife, kids, a Chromebook, and an old gaming laptop from 2015 that's still working great.

NVidia has been doing that for much longer. Intel does some pretty shady things too. The problem is that we keep buying like they're better with a new number.

This is the best budget laptop deal for someone that needs a touchscreen. Was able to get a 10% off coupon, 1 hour after email sign-up and apply it. For a total of $297 plus tax. Chase freedom has 5% cashback on Dell, so that will give another $15 off bringing me to about $283 plus tax.

You can replace the 8GB ram that's already in it?

Yea its just a single stick that can be removed.

Best value for most is just to add another single 8gb stick to make 16gb-dual Ch. But if you want more, like 32 or 64gb, then you can buy a 2 stick kit and upgrade.
