As far as full frame cameras go the Z5 is relatively small but it's still not a "small" camera. The 24-50 also isn't very wide nor does it have a long reach so what you want you could do with it would be limited.

For normal hiking I love my z30. It gets grief from people because it doesn't have a view finder. But it's small, the screen folds in to cover the screen, and it still takes great photos. I toss that thing in my day pack and I just don't care if it gets beat up. After several years on hiking with it, it's still in great shape.

This camera is now, with the sale, at the same price range as the Z50 II...you'd still go with a Z30 tho?

If I had a to choose only 1 camera I would get the z50ii over the z30. But for hiking, I would still pick the z30 as it's smaller and lighter than the z50ii. For everyday needs though, the z50ii beats the z30.
