Are you talking about the Dell Inspiron 3520 (Intel) i5 deal that is also priced at $330 before discounts (e.g., 10% off) here [dell.com]?

Why would you get the i5 version over this deal? I did my own comparison analysis, and found that there's tradeoffs between the two versions. See below for details.

Comparison Analysis of Dell Inspiron 3520 (Intel) vs. 3535 (AMD)

Processor

3520: Features the 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1235U with 10 cores, 12 threads, and up to 4.40 GHz Turbo.
3535: Equipped with the AMD Ryzen™ 5 7530U, a 6-core 12-thread processor.
Analysis: The AMD Ryzen™ 5 7530U in the 3535 delivers faster performance according to benchmarks [cpubenchmark.net], and it is expected to offer better battery life.

Graphics

3520: Utilizes Intel® UHD Graphics.
3535: Comes with AMD Radeon™ Graphics.
Analysis: AMD Radeon™ Graphics in the 3535 is better.

Memory

3520: Offers 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) of DDR4 memory at 2666 MT/s.
3535: Also provides 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) but at a faster 3200 MT/s.
Analysis: The 3535 has marginally better memory speed, which might not be a significant factor if planning to upgrade memory.

Storage

3520: Includes a 256 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
3535: Doubles the storage with a 512 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
Analysis: The 3535 offers more storage.

Display

3520: Features a 15.6" FHD 1920x1080 display with a higher refresh rate of 120Hz, WVA, Non-Touch, Anti-Glare, 250 nit, and a Narrow Border LED-Backlit screen.
3535: Also has a 15.6" FHD 1920x1080 display but with a 60Hz refresh rate, WVA, Touchscreen, Anti-Glare, and Narrow Border LED-Backlit screen.
Analysis: The 3520 offers a higher refresh rate, ideal for smoother visuals, whereas the 3535 provides touchscreen functionality.

Wireless Connectivity

3520: Equipped with the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (2x2, 802.11ax) and Bluetooth®.
3535: Comes with Realtek Wi-Fi 5 RTL8821CE (1x1, 802.11ac, MU-MIMO) and Bluetooth®.
Analysis: The 3520's Intel wireless card is superior, offering better connectivity and speed. Also supports Wi-Fi 6. However, just like the memory and storage, this is also upgradeable.

In summary, the Dell Inspiron 3535 (AMD) excels in CPU performance, graphics, memory speed, and storage capacity, while the 3520 (Intel) has advantages in display refresh rate and wireless connectivity. Your choice may depend on what aspects are most critical for your usage, such as gaming, multitasking, or general productivity (e.g., the 3535 comes equipped with a touchscreen).

FWIW, I got the Intel 3520 from the last deal, but I'm not sure if it was the better purchase overall. Feel free to add anything I may have missed.

From the last DELL deal :-- sign-up for DELL Email updates and receive a one time unique promo code that takes 10% off. The code may take up to an hour to arrive in your inbox. It worked for me but YMMV. https://www.dell.com/preferences/signup

Any idea how much a WiFi 6 upgrade would cost? Don't need it now, but I can definitely see updating my in-home network in the next year(ish).
It will cost around $10-$20 for an AX201 card. You can google for buying options.

3520 vs 3535. One more different. With 3535, you get a USB C port (for data)
With 3520 recent deal, don't have a USB C port.

For Inspiron 3520, most models don't get USB C port. They get two 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports

For Inspiron 3520, Dell clearly explains that "Type-C™ port available on all configurations in Platinum Silver with an aluminum chassis. On plastic configurations, Type-C™ is available on 12th Generation Intel Core processors with NVIDIA® GeForce® MX550 discrete graphics."

I often buy the minimum RAM and hard drive configuration of a laptop with upgrade option and then upgrade with the max RAM and hard drive later. So, those laptop last a long time. Most of them costs less than $300. I rarely buy a laptop that costs more than $300. Only once that I bought a $470 HP laptop. I don't need the CPU power on a laptop because I work on a desktop most of the time. So, less powerful CPU on a laptop is fine with me.

It is a kind of hobby to replace parts of a laptop and to make it work better. Whenever I buy a laptop, I would open up the case and take out the part and try something on the first day.

If people spend $1200 on a Lenovo laptop, I can buy 5 or 6 laptops with the same cost.
At the same time, I can buy a $1500 laptop, still be able to upgrade it, and have it last me a decade, instead. There's benefits to both ways of purchasing.

Yes, but would be better if you can attach a second ram for the dual channel, that helps a lot in the perfomance

Thanks OP, this fits the bill for my parents' needs.
For some reason, I wasn't getting anything when using my Yahoo email for the email subscription. Used my Gmail and got it in less than an hour.
