I'm no sure what's gimmicky about this. I've used it for years. Yeah it's nothing special but it's convenient.

(Maybe) pro tip:
We use a French press to cold brew - drop in the grounds and stir, wait 12-24 hours then drain.
Makes clean up really easy

Actually just put some coffee to brew right now. I have GERD and cold brew is awesome for that as there is way less acidity yet all the regular flavor and caffeine of coffee.
You can heat it up after it bruise or you can drink a cold.
I'm in front of my sister for spending so much money on it but it tastes very good

a pro tip... if you are bothering with cold brew to reduce bitterness,
you'd be much better off finding better coffee beans than gimmicks.

I have this item and it works really well for me. The only downside is it is a pain to clean.

It's very similar to the Toddy. I used the Toddy for many years and though it was a mess to empty and clean, it made great coffee. But one of the times I left it on the counter overnight, the plug in the bottom wasn't fully inserted and in the morning I had coffee all over my hardwood kitchen floors, it actually made the floors buckle (fortunately we tore down and rebuilt our house shortly after). Since then I've been using a much simpler device, similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Iced-Cold-Brew-Coffee-Maker/dp/B071ZWR7M8/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2KJ096KUMH8MY&keyw... [amazon.com]

I've been making cold brew at home for years and I much prefer the type of device I linked above vs Toddy or similar.

Edit: in case anyone is interested, my cold brew carafe is 1.5 liters and I make the cold brew by adding 1 1/4 cups ground coffee and fill the rest with water.

I have been using this for years, and it makes a great cold brew. Using the paper disk filters, it removes all of the "sludge" making for an extremely smooth cup of cold brew. I brew mine ultra concentrated, lol.

You can easily replicate this by putting coffee and water in any container and putting in the fridge/counter for up to 24 hours (I go full 24) and then strain through regular coffee filters into another pitcher. This thing just makes it a bit easier.

I don't like French press due to all the fines getting in there (that's just me though).

Counterpoint: I have used that one and while it is is easier/easier to clean, the cold brew it makes is just not as good. Since it doesn't fully mix the water and grounds, I just can't get the resulting coffee to the strength/concentration that I prefer and I waste coffee trying to get it there (I prefer it VERY strong and concentrated). My sister likes it weaker and values the easier cleanup (although it is not much easier imo) so she uses one of these.

Hmm. I also have pretty bad GERD whenever I steer too far away from keto. My solve for coffee is to go for very dark roasts that don't screw up my ph levels.

This study backs that up as they didn't find noticeable ph level differences between either. What they did find is lower levels of acidic components which potentially could be an irritant to some people. They also found less antioxidants too…and I've noticed that cold coffees do not have the same effect on me (which I assume is more the antioxidants from the oils).

So it's like mitigating one problem by removing one of the best benefits.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s...18-34392-w

I wonder also if it's also the placebo effect: people using stronger roasts for better acidity that are finding cold brew to be superior, and it's actually the roast itself that's doing the job irregardless of the brewing method.

Yeah I just use an all metal French press or Aeropress with paper filter for smaller quantities and much easier cleaning. For me, I avoid glass which I eventually end up breaking at some point.

I just combine grounds and water in a jar for 24 hours. Seems to work fine. Just pass it through a coffee filter after.

That's how I started. Am trying this method out of curiosity and that Secondipity recently had a special where these were $16 shipped.

Considering most commercial coffees are over roasted you are correct , but if you're already in the market of buying commercial coffee this device should be a better balance in regards to budget friendly in comparison to buying better coffee running at 20-25 dollars per bag that can reach up around two bags a month for a single person

This calls it coffee concentrate, am I supposed to then dilute in water?
