I think they're referring to price-per-TB, so 18 TB for $200 ($11.11/TB) is fairly close to 14TB for $150 ($10.71/TB).
Excellent price per TB, but for almost the same price you can get the WD 18TB from Best Buy which people say is more reliable (in my experience all the major brands are all the same)
Depends on scale of your setup.

For example I have 20 drives, having them in external housings with 20 power bricks wouldn't ideal.

Instead I have a server running in basement.

Also if you shuck them and put it in proper setup you also have proper cooling.

Drives in these external enclosures often run hot.

Ordered a pair first thing this morning - one to use as-is, and one to shuck!

Noob here. I just bought a NAS for Plex. Would this be a good hdd to shuck and use for my drives?

For those that shucked, what kind of drive is on there?

What is the benefit of shucking instead of just plugging this into my PC? For context I plan to just store videos on this drive for playing on Plex.

Fairly safe bet that these drives are CMR (not shingled/SMR)?

edit:

opps.. I misread this... I saw other threads saying these were SMR, but based on this page they should be CMR... anything above 8TB is CMR. https://www.seagate.com/products/cmr-smr-list/

Yeah I saw the same…I'm thinking it's likely CMR. Which to be clear is good.

Here's a thread that inspires more confidence: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar...rzoqRS3hul
