I own this and that's how I always describe it. I mostly hate the backpack, but I also like it in some ways.

Anyone know what an equivalent to what the Heckler was in the North Face line up or other brand? Bought my Heckler in 2011 and it's still great but looking for alternatives in case.

I think it looks too round, the preferred style is rectangular

I like the different sized pockets. There's a pocket for anything you need: small, large, fleece for glasses or electronics, flat ones... Big water bottle pockets on both sides. Fairly comfortable.

Don't like the compression straps on the bottom (dual purpose for hanging stuff?), the waste of having every layer padded including the inside pockets (takes up a lot of space and adds weight), and insane number of dangling straps and unremovable hip belt. The laptop pocket is gusseted for no reason and makes that pocket very small/tight.

Minor thing, mine is all black and all the zippers are hard to see. The closed zipper positions overlap a lot with other pocket zippers - likely not a big issue if you get any other color.

I keep mine buckled all the time. Can feel it on my hip but doesn't bother me too much. Don't like that it, alone, creates 4 dangling straps though.

Cut it off and seal the remaining fringe with a lighter

Did consider modding it but I don't want to f it up since I'll likely end up selling it.

I stand corrected, it is removable. Had to follow this guide since it was tricky.

I've seen better implementations of a hip strap on other backpacks and I didn't see any instructions when I got it.
