A few years ago I got my wife one of the Strata beginner sets, including the bag, for like $160 on Amazon. That set had fewer clubs(no 3w, no 3h,no PW, no 8i), but at the same time, an absolute newbie doesn't need a full set of clubs.
I've seen that set recently dropping down to close to what I paid for it, and if I were buying for someone brand new to the game, that's probably still what I would choose. This is definitely reasonable for the price, but $340 is a big chunk of change for a hobby that the person might decide they don't even like.
