I bought this to use the existing bulb as motion sensor triggered. Unfortunately, to activate and use this product you need CamV3 too .

It has the feature to enable the motion sensing feature on the standard bulb but you need to connect Wyze cam V3 to activate this device. In other words, you can't activate the device without CamV3 . So, if you don't have Wyzev3 cam, you wont be able to use this device.

I can't say for sure but I'm guessing that it defaults to being on since that tracks with the power loss behaviour. I need to try that in another socket where I want to use it to power an IR illuminator but doubt that I'll have a chance to for a few days.

Yeah, I started to use Hue as an example. They don't have any similar state recovery as far as I've seen. Power goes off, I have to go in and turn it off. And I have mine set to be off all the time, not triggered with motion (just using it to power that cam). So it doesn't even fail to that setting.
Good to know, thank you! You clearly know your way around tech.

I have this and the main benefit is that you can easily hook up a wired camera outside and just plug it into the socket of this device for power. As others have said the wired cam needs to be Wyze V3, but this works great and I live in Florida with tons of rain and never had an issue.
If I have a porch light switch that powers several light fixtures, can I keep the camera on without powering the other lights or would I need a Wyze light socket for all fixtures?

If the switch controls power to that fixture as well as others, then no. The fixture needs to have power to make the cam work. It has no ability to switch the other lights unless you have other sockets that it could control. (I guess if you had smart bulbs in the other sockets there might be some way to automate them based on the cam state but that's a long way around.)

You would need one for every light on that switch. And you would likely need additional cameras if those lights are too far apart due to range limitations of the connection.

It's great in theory, but mine have been annoying at times with scheduling/motion/power state. I go back and forth on if I should just find a way to hardwire them to power or not just to make the lights function as intended.

They had a security issue and didn't communicate it to their customers.

That being said, I still use their products (cameras and smart plugs). Prices and experience is great. I only point the cameras outside. Lights and plugs aren't tied to anything important.

I'm not saying what they did was okay. I don't trust any smart home company.
But I'm guessing their microphone is still on.
