Amazon Kindle Scribe (16 GB) + Basic pen $151.99+tax after trade and 2-pack hack

First, initiate a trade in of something to activate 20% off a Kindle device. I have had good luck using the lowest-dollar value item in getting immediate discounts- so a $3 Fire TV is what I used:

Then, go to the Scribe bundle page and add one (1) of the eligible Scribes for the 2-pack discount:

Next, go to the main Scribe page and add the version that includes the 3 months of Kindle Unlimited. This version does not show eligibility for the 2-pack discount. Hang on.

Go to checkout. Both your 20% trade in discount ($48 on the Basic Pen version) and the 2-pack discount ($40) should show up. If you look at the left detailed column, though, ALL of the discount applies only to the version added without the Kindle Unlimited add-on. That left that Scribe at $151.99 for me while the other still showed at $239.99.
Last step: Return the more expensive Scribe. I've verified that I'll be getting a refund of $255 (cost plus tax) for that one, leaving me with a new Scribe and Basic pen for $151.99. I also think I'll still get to keep the 3 months of Kindle Unlimited- I canceled the renewal before initiating the return. Finally, I almost never actually trade in the item I use for the 20% trade in coupons, but do note that if they give you immediate Amazon GC credit for it that if you don't send it in they will recoup it later.

How do you make sure you return the more expensive Scribe? On the order summary they both show at the same price and the discounts are applied to the total of the 2.

I think return one and you should get the amount that is stated on the return
What about the 20% trade-in. Mine still needs to be added on the backend as I didn't get the automatic 20% off. Did you see that applied individually or just to the other one?
In your case return one and then ask for the 20% off.
