Deal History

you need to install Xpenology boot loader on a USB drive, then you can run Synology DSM on a PC, or just install EXSi on a PC and run Xpenology/Synology in a VM
Built a NAS some years back when the 8TB WD EasyStores were posted every other week for $120 because you could shuck a Red from them. Considering making a new one for basic household stuff.
Do those drives ever go on sale anymore or is it really just down to the ones you posted above? Looks like the 10TB is $154 but that's on sale. Just trying to get a sense of where the game is at now.

The 18TB drives are on sale now for $200.00 at Best Buy. I believe they are usually white label drives inside.
Thanks OP - was keeping on eye on this since 1st SD promo went out a few days ago. B&H photo running same black friday deal. Decided to get from Amazon because of better return policy. Also picked up some RAM since I'll be hosting parallel server apps.
Overall great deal on an awesome box with enough CPU to transcode Plex - which the Syno "J" models are ill equipped for. https://slickdeals.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14605009&stc=1&d=1700748601

Is it possible to use the synology software on a PC? I want a NAS, but I want a cpu made this century in it. The software seems nice, if I can run it on my old PC

I dont believe so. You can try trunas or buy an unRaid lic if you have existing hardware and want to make your own nas.
Where? I only see the 18tb ones and they are sold out.
Looks like you are correct. Sold out. Save the link and check back over today, tomorrow, and Monday. Might go back in stock as advertised BF sale.... Otherwise, create a deal alert.
Also websites like shucks.top are good for quicky checking prices.
If you don't mind used drives, check out serverpartdeals or goharddrive.

- For Plex users - Few of these (DS224+, QNAP TS-462) support hardware transcoding. Below is the famous link for confirmation.

Note: You need Plex Pass to get advantage of hardware transcoding. Here is the deal for lifetime Plex pass for $90 - https://www.plex.tv/plex-pass/
- Similar to FrontPage deal of Newegg and B&H but here shipping and returns both are free

I did it for years on a number of deferent systems then became tiered of it and just bought a Synology DS220j
