Horrible cpu. Slower than all other AMD options in gaming and productivity. 7800x3d or 7900 non 3d.

a bit harsh.. but i certainly agree. You should not really consider this CPU unless you really understand what you are getting.

For 99% of the people out there at 7800x3d OR the 7900 are better options.

(check out gamersnexus or hardwareunboxed at youtube to review why this CPU has issues...)

Is this overkill for 4k gaming at 120hz (120fps max)? I have a 4090 and am looking to upgrade.

I have the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D in my shopping card right now. But for $80? bucks more...I could get this one.

edit: I wrote this comment before I saw the two comments above me. Looks like the 7800X3D is the way to go for 4k gaming!

Assuming you have a modern cpu, upgrading is probably pointless at 4k gaming.
