I've had this printer for almost 2 years and it's done me well. I use it to print out a lot of essays and notes for my classes, in addition to labels for shipping. The ink does last me quite a while (I do buy the XL ones).
Never buy HP printers. If you do never fall for this ink refill scam. Their subscription ink program is TERRIBLE and super shady. Google it before you buy any HP product.
This is fine and you can refill the cartridges if you are adventurous.

I would consider it if it had store pickup option or free shipping (requires +). Canon ink refill is successful and sustainable. The cartridge lasts for years if refilled. Messy business but cheap and works. It does not work well for hp however, as either they block the cartridges after a few refills or they are too crappy and breakdown anyway.
Edit: added 500 letter size papers for $5 more to get free shipping. Needed paper anyway and ordered one.

Every black friday i am tempted to get a cheap inkjet just because. This one seems to check a lot of boxes. I could be off here but I think Canon is a better choice than HP or Epson, as those companies seem to more strongly discourage the more economical ink "sources."
3rd party carts available. Or even cheaper DIY refill with syringe also seems doable with this printer's carts. (Don't quote me on this, and it is prolly messy)
OEM carts seem to be $30 for the pair for the standard size and $49 for the pair for the XL.
3rd party carts obviously cheaper. Hmmm. Buy now ask questions later?
But I don't want to make a trip to Walmart so I'm still looking, I think the cheap shippable items are often out of stock since they get used as fillers.

I feel the same! I have an old laser printer, which prints fine when it prints and uses 3rd party toner but the paper feeder jams constantly. I have another inkjet all in one but that thing didnt even last beyond the initial cartridge! I'm tempted to buy this one just to have something reliable but prefer laser printer - they seem really expensive these days though.

Yeah I guess I should've mentioned I have a monochrome laser, just might be nice to have an inkjet around.
Love my laser, no duplexing or scanning, but has been solid as a rock. I just had to look up when I got it. June of 2010. Brother HL-2140 refurb from Staples, $79.99 -$25 coupon -$30 rebate .
