Seems like overkill for a Tesla. I've been running 512gb ssd for several years and I can still go back and view files from a month ago.
The drive is super small, about the same footprint as my AirPods Pro case and half as thick. I also like the lanyard loop on the corner. The included USB-C to C cable is about 8 inches long end to end.
I formatted the drive to APFS and transferred about 100GB of RAW photos from my M1 MacBook Air. It took less than 2 minutes and sustained 860MB/sec the whole time. Formatting to APFS encrypted and transferring the same files slowed it down to 760MB/sec.

wow
To verify what you stated, am I safe with my recent purchase of a SanDisk Extreme Go 1TB from Costco?

Your drive is a newer model, so not on the list of problem drives. The current belief is that the problem was a design flaw using components that were too big. Sandisk tried to fix the problem with extra epoxy and a firmware update. However, the newest Pro-G40 model has also been reported as failing. The real question is if anyone wants to trust Sandisk SSDs now. Hard to say until all the facts are known.
