I got my Venture X card when it first come out, and convert it to Silver One after first year. Anyone know if I got another SUB if I apply one now. ^.^
Keep in mind that if you plan to redeem the miles for hotels through the Capital One travel portal, the miles may not be as valuable as they seem at first. You may want to check hotel prices at your preferred booking website first.
For example, I plan to book hotels through Agoda since I'm traveling to Asia and Agoda tends to have the best prices on hotels in that region. So, I checked a few hotel prices on Agoda vs the Cap One portal. I realized that the Cap One portal is usually about 20% higher in price. I don't know if the same holds true for other travel booking sites or other regions.
This issue is not limited to Cap One. When I check the same hotels on Chase's UR portal, I also realized that their prices are about 20% higher as well. I know that when you redeem UR points for hotels, you get 25% more in value. But since the UR portal is more expensive than Agoda, the extra value is actually not as great of a benefit as advertised.
Yeah makes sense, probably one of the reasons why they give us 25% as they now we'll be paying extra for the hotels. Same goes for TD banks Expedia portal or US banks hotel or Amex's portal
A note for anyone looking - Capital One has altered the $300 travel credit starting this year (at least on my VX). Instead of allowing you to take a $300 statement credit against travel expenses, you are now only offered a $300 travel "voucher" for use in their captive (and, let be honest, pretty terrible) Capital One Travel portal. That means no bargains, poor hotel prices, no multi-destination or open-jaw tickets, no train or bus travel, no airline gift cards, points, or in-flight expenses, and no access to things like Hertz President's Circle deals or local/nonUS based car rental companies (EuroCar, etc). And, of course, you forego the 10% points back bonus with the voucher, so it's really a $270 credit compared to paying with the card. The President's circle is honestly the funniest part, since that's a VX benefit - but the C1 Portal is run by Hopper, somewhere around #47 in the top ten travel portals and with zero customer service.
I'll use it this year, but this is probably the year I cancel the card.
Thanks. I called them two days in a row and they couldn't locate my account. I'll call them again tomorrow
Weirdly, their mobile app works for me but not their web app. I applied today, immediately got approved, and was able to link the card through to my existing account. Was able to create a virtual card through the mobile app and book travel through capital one portal but also when using mobile.

Capital One portal isn't the greatest and the prices are generally higher, but on three occasions - two international and one domestic - it found tickets for me that were cheaper than other search engines or through airlines websites directly. We travel often enough that I think we will be able to use the annual travel credit.

Thanks strange.
I finally can see the card in my online account/app.
But, I still can't create virtual number and the travel credit hasn't shown up yet in the travel portal.
Update: My card finally arrived and I activated it.
The credit was available to use in few minutes after activation.
Already booked the flight using the credit and also reached $3700 spending balance.
