This is how it starts. $300 udm here, $150 access point there, signal kinda weak across the house, another $150 wouldn't hurt it's been a while.

The you end up with a $600+ router

Don't often see deals from Ubiquiti's official store, so wanted to make sure SD didn't miss out.

Love my UDM-Pro, two years no problems.

Nah, you just gotta have restraint. I only have a $500 router

Likely not. Too many unknowns, but assuming you are using the ATT router/gateway as to provide wifi and internet to your house by itself, then maybe.

You likely have a BGW210 or 320, and they usually work well enough. You're likely on a GPON fiber connection (or XGSPON), which can in its last mile suffer from over-subscription, but shouldn't result in dropped internet- merely slowdown.

If you buy a Ubiquiti gateway, or any other vendor, you can put the ATT gateway into passthrough mode. This offloads any routing and wifi to whatever equipment you buy.

Honest opinion is to call ATT and have a tech rolled out to you home. They can check the fiber, the gateway, ONT (if you have one), and give you a better answer than we can.
It actually does not offload routing, as it's not a true bridge mode. You would need a more advanced solutionsfor that, e.g. https://github.com/MonkWho/pfatt

This. I think most home routers don't have this capability and so people don't think about it. I also segregate my wfh appliances to their own vlan.
Agree, most home routers don't even support vlans (ones that do are often limited to named vlans like voice VLAN) at all let alone the firewall integration to separate them. It's things like that that drive many of us to using products like Ubiquiti offers, or of course you can always go with PFsense for routing/dchp/DNS/vlan/firewall for free :-) or use Untangle with full features for $5 a month. At home I use my UDM SE for everything but at the business I manage I use a software based router for everything but the switches, Wi-Fi, cameras, phones and digital signage all Ubiquiti!

This is tempting, but my ER-4 has been flawless for 4 years. The 10 Gb WAN port is tempting. I don't need it. i don't need it

Yes, but it's a great system. All of my access points and IP cameras are powered by my Ubiquiti switch (Power over ethernet), so it was very easy to add a battery backup to my internet/cameras with one plug.

Could some help me with the list of things I need to setup closed loop security cameras for the house? I just need two cameras, and it is ok if there is no internet access. Just want to record it 24-7 and be able to watch video when connected to local network

Literally in the same boat. Only real concern is how much longer will we see support.

SD, it sucks that your links do not work with Comcast Business with Security Edge. I am having to turn on a VPN just to check links.

Picked up a UMD Pro. My ER4 is getting a little long in the tooth and it would be nice to have the controller integrated rather than using the crappy windows implementation.

So when I get the UDM Pro, I'll literally be upgrading my home network from scratch as I currently have an EdgeRouter X and an AP-Lite.

Any advice for setting up a new UDM Pro w/Vlans and a U6-LR AP?

Have you seen any notable performance issues on your ER4 at this point, or just pure age pushing this decision over the top? I'm having trouble pulling the trigger here, but I do agree that running the controller in software elsewhere is pretty meh. I've got the controller installed on my QNAP NAS at present, which has been fine, but support is pretty isolated.

forgive me as someone who knows nothing about this, but i have AT&T fiber and it seems like 5x a day my internet disconnects. Is this somethat that addresses that?
I had something similar when I was on ATT, but that was due to a certificate error while setting up the bypass. I wonder if you are having issues because of the inability to set the VLAN ID to 0 on the newer OS builds.

Two things I'm aware of are: 1. You can use Teleport and 2. Threat Management shouldn't slow your network to a crawl

If you're someone like me that is frugal and just simply wants reliable internet, I'll point out to noobies that all you 100% need from ubiquiti is the access points. My setup is: cable modem provided by ISP -> RT-AX55 (most routers will do. I turn off SSID broadcasting on this) - > TP-Link TL-SG1008P, TP-Link TL-SG108 (two cheap switches, one with POE) - > U6 Pro, 2x nanoHD, 10x hardline ethernet connections. This setup produces pretty rock solid stable internet and I did almost no tinkering with settings. Ubiquiti default settings work really well. I could have used just 2 APs, but oh well.

That said, the UDM-Pro is mighty tempting Smilie
