This is how it starts. $300 udm here, $150 access point there, signal kinda weak across the house, another $150 wouldn't hurt it's been a while.

The you end up with a $600+ router

Don't often see deals from Ubiquiti's official store, so wanted to make sure SD didn't miss out.

Love my UDM-Pro, two years no problems.

Nah, you just gotta have restraint. I only have a $500 router

Could some help me with the list of things I need to setup closed loop security cameras for the house? I just need two cameras, and it is ok if there is no internet access. Just want to record it 24-7 and be able to watch video when connected to local network
Identify the two ports used for your cameras and set them on their own single VLAN. Then configure the firewall to block all inbound and outbound communication on that VLAN. The recordings are stored locally by default. If you ever want to manage your NVR while away, ensure you have some VPN connection to it's own VLAN and then allow cross traffic between those two only.

If you want to stick with Ubiquiti, buy the cloud key gen2 (UCK-G2) and a hard drive to put in it. Then buy the appropriate cameras from Ubiquiti, they have wireless or hardwired, depending on your needs. If you buy a hard wire, get one with power over ethernet adapter unless you have a switch that can provide POE. All your footage stays local on that cloud key hard drive according to Ubiquiti. You can access it via the app regardless of where you are as the cloud key maintains a connection to Ubiquiti, so no firewall or port forwarding required.

I like the way they do constant recording as it flags and motion events so you can quickly go to them, but you can also watch hours of the paint drying if you want 😁.

So when I get the UDM Pro, I'll literally be upgrading my home network from scratch as I currently have an EdgeRouter X and an AP-Lite.

Any advice for setting up a new UDM Pro w/Vlans and a U6-LR AP?
Check out CrossTalk Solutions on YouTube, he has a multi-part series on how to configure the UDMP from start to finish.

Have you seen any notable performance issues on your ER4 at this point, or just pure age pushing this decision over the top? I'm having trouble pulling the trigger here, but I do agree that running the controller in software elsewhere is pretty meh. I've got the controller installed on my QNAP NAS at present, which has been fine, but support is pretty isolated.
I also jump on the UDM-Pro to replace my ER4. I guess we all jumped on the Staples deal on the ER4 back in the good ole days. I had my controller running on a raspberry Pi for a bit along with pi-hole. But always wanted a UDM and waiting for a sale that I always missed. Surprisingly I was able t pick one up this time around. Will keep the er4 as backup or for doing testing. Like others, I have invested in U poe switches and wap. It should be a no brainer to setup the UDM Pro.

Got one! Regretted not getting one earlier and it went OOS. I've never seen a deal on Ubiquiti's site before. Glad I doubled back.

Nothing notable, it's been pretty rock solid. I would like to be able to use some of the unifi stuff to monitor my network so that's probably the biggest factor besides the ER4 just getting pretty old at this point.

From what I read the SE has 2.5 GB WAN port , built in SSD and POE. I am hoping the SE goes on sale for Cyber Monday. I finally looking to replace my USG that is still running stong.
Jumped on this UDM Pro, hopefully can cancel this if the SE goes on sale in next few days.

I am using both ubiquiti and Orbi. Create a separate vlan on my ubiquiti network for orbi for all my IOT devices.
My biggest problem with Orbi is that my chromecasts are on the guest network. I can't reach those from my Main network. When I do switch over to the guest network, I can only see the devices that are on the AP that I'm closest to.

Is there a write-up or something I can read to fully understand your setup?

If you are considering Unifi - you can actually just get the UDM-Pro which is on sale for $279. This function as both the router and the controller; with cloud key gen2, you still need to have a dedicated router.

Cloud Key gen 2 only support 2.5" drive, so there is a size limitation. The UDM-Pro can swap in larger HDs (3.5). I swapped in a 14TB drive that had been running well for a few years in my home surveillance for about 8-10 cameras. Note, the storage size needed is largely determined by the number of camera, resolution of recorded.

The biggest benefit for Cloud Key gen2 is its compact size.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but might work.

You forgot the switch, and server rack, and oh need a new UPS that's rack mountable and then a new NAS...

Then the cameras catch your eye...
