These decks aren't high power, but the rares and mythics are worth more than $14. I believe that Gondor is worth about $15 and Mordor is worth about $10.
I'm just starting to get back onto mtgb after not playing since the 90s. Is this like a collectors item? Wondering if I should buy two sets. One to keep and one to play with.

If they're selling them for $14, they're probably not going to be collectors items, but it sounds like they're pretty fun to play.
Can any collectors in here tell me if this will ever be worth some coin? Like can I put it in my closet for 5 years and expect to at least break even on it?

See the top comment. You can make money if you immediately turned around and sold all these cards as singles tomorrow. As far as a long term investment... no one can know

These are great on so many fronts, great for begginers as everyone knows LOTR, the game concepts are easy to explain in context of a story, scenarios and characters new players are familiar with.
The deck lists for the two decks included including current prices, tldr not gonna make any money on these

People who buy this stuff like to rationalize it like this, but the real worth is what you can get for it, take it from someone who actually does this and doesn't just sit back and pretend I've got money sitting around in my closet.
You will have a hard time getting even 15 total back. The rest of your cards will have 0 worth but at least will be kind of a cool LOTR item.

ok but you can't sell all the cards as singles unless you are literally a large card shop. Regular players have to buylist and most those cards won't be on a buylist at all. Literally worth nothing. The rest you might be able to get 15 for, haven't done a deep dive into it.
Last Christmas my gf got me a set booster box for brothers war and jumpstart 2022. I was able to sell to a buylist for 120 dollars between the both of them (only about 20 or so cards). Great for me, but had I paid out of pocket, I would not have gotten my moneys worth unless I go by the delusional sell price that card shops are able to charge. The spread between buy and sell is just too large.
