Most will find the 3800 a better deal (when you can snag it for $999 or less). The two objective differences are a) slightly more wattage (but not likely to make a difference for most) and b) a zone 3 pre out. Then the 4800 is made in Japan, so some say that means better build quality.

Waiting for 3800 but nowhere to be found for a discount. Did you see any deals for it?

I'm in the same boat, never got to snag one of the new ones for $999 and I've been waiting and waiting with no luck.

I got an amazon one at $1200, but at that price I'll just return it and do this 4800 instead.

I bought a 3800 this morning open box for $880 plus an extended warranty for less than the $999 deal. I was worried the $999 deal was not going to come around any time soon since they didn't post it today. Would have probably jumped on this deal if I didn't pull the trigger this morning for the 3800.

If you resell it in 3-4 years I can almost guarantee you that you will get the difference back in resale over the X3800

Denon has Dirac available...just not DLBC...they say that is coming next year sometime.

I did hear a rumor that DIRAC Art would be rolled out on Marantz units before it is available on Denon
I can't substantiate that..just a rumor I saw on AVS forum

You will need to buy a Dirac approved calibration mic as well with a Denon/Marantz product
