Original post is for the 780 not the 779 series. The main difference is the cut angle increases from 45 to 60.
A store clerk tried to convince me to buy the 779 which was on sale for $399. He told me he personally owned the 780 and there was no difference. There are a few differences. Up to you buyer if the differences are worth the higher price.

I trim houses professionally. The 780 is definitely better. The shadow line alone makes it more useful than the 779. That's not to say, the 779 isn't a good saw, it's just that the 780 is better. This is a very good price for the 780. However, it appears to be a YMMV.
