I think you'll need to be more specific on how you want to "get into A.I." If you're looking to run something like Llama or Stable Diffusion locally, at this point VRAM is your bottleneck. You *can* run with less (I've run on 6GB), but it's not fun and it's a big limitation. So, for games, the 4080 with 12GB is going to smoke the 3080*, but 16GB VRAM will make your life easier running inference on big datasets. I'd also say that 16GB or DDR5 RAM is low as well.

* YMMV on this statement, but looking at benchmarks the 4080 mobile looks to be 30% faster for games than the 3080.

Have the almost same model (3080ti with different screen) and can chime in on some quirks with the laptop
- CPU overheats on the slightest workloads. Can't undervolt. Have to lock temp to 85C so it doesn't hit 120C transiently
- GPU is full powered and is great, doesn't overheat
- Software is absolutely garbage. Look up Alienware Command Center on reddit or forums and you'll see
- support is awsome

When I buy a dell the first thing I do is install a clean windows OS. I upgrade the harddrive and memory to 2 TB and 64GB of RAM.

The last time I purchased a scratch and dent sale and five minutes after I made the order I called up to cancel, knowing they would offer me a $50.00 of the price. And when it arrived I called up and stated the dent is really bad and they offered me another $50.00 of the price.

I have the 3080ti version as well. I undervolt no issue just DL and install the latest version before they removed the option. I run it with Turbo off. Temps never go above 70c on both CPU and GPU for me.
