As far as resale the same worth debate made now would apply in 3-4 years also.
The 4800 is definitely worth the extra $300 if you won't be adding external power & your speakers prefer/ need extra power to perform at optimal levels for you.
I hope they don't include.
It would raise the price to help pay for everyone else's license!
If I want it I would like to pay for it myself.

As much as I agree XT32 is a good RC, the 2800 is one step down XT which should suffice in your situation imo.

Certainly you would agree, that, in most cases, the distortion would scale proportionally with the power level correct?
Therefore you'd have a perceived difference of 0.7db for a given "clean" listening experience. Now if you have "data" that shows the x4800h, at a given power level suffers less THD then you likely have a good point. Unless you don't believe in THD.
Sorry man, "on paper" is how physics and science are determined.
Of course it's always personal choice what people buy. But, many people make decisions based upon data, so for those readers, this information might be useful. People are also welcome to use your expert recommendation.
In your situation the 3800 makes complete sense.
Those on-paper benefits of the 4800 aren't really an audible benefit.
One thing about Frys that I seem to recall was that they didn't actually advertise the Denon AVR by the name and the model number. If I recall correctly they worded it as a popular national brand or something and then gave the specs, which would reveal what model it actually was.
When I seen the X4800H on sale I thought about upgrading and was tempted. But unless I'm missing something I just don't see much of a reason to at this time.
