You can get it to send a text instead of email. Just find out what extension your cell carrier uses. For instance, with Verizon or Xfinity, it is your number [email protected] . Text are more convenient because my emails are overloaded with junk. In the few months I have been using, they only sent text for actual leak, or if you fake a leak to check.

It looks like the original 5 pack is also $29.99.

Is there any benefit to the gen 2 besides longer range? If not, then that's quite the price premium if you don't need the longer range.

The app "requires" precise location permissions.

Just for setup or at all times? I don't keep location on for anything unless required just to quickly use the app.

During initial setup and then every time you use the app. So every time I approve it for "this time only."

it's really the fact that it requires precise location that irritates me, if it was approximately location only I would allow it every time the app runs.

Still have to blame google for this one I believe, just like how many apps started requiring location just to use wifi after a certain version of Android.

As long as alerts still work once setup then I'm fine.

They do work, so all good. There's a lot to like about the Govee sensors, I used the temperature and humidity sensors that are configured like this water leak package with one receiver and nine sensors. The fact that it keeps the years worth of data and that you can export it into CSV format all make me happy. On iphone, Apple says that the Govee app may be getting your location even in the background when the app isn't in use. They are all in it together and the silence of our government (both sides) on protecting our digital privacy is deafening.

The differences between generation 1 and gen 2 were explained by this Amazon Reviewer [amazon.com]

Summary..2nd Gen:
"- Alexa/Google Assistant/IFTT are supported
- Range is way higher (197 ft vs. 1312 ft)
- Can connect via bluetooth
- Claims battery life has improved from 1 year to 2 years, but I have had my previous sensors for over a year and the battery icon on only one of them has only gone down 25% (assuming that is accurate)
- Can support up to 100 sensors instead of just 10, which is probably overkill for most houses, but I'm sure medium-to-large houses can easily use 10+, and they indicate it could be used for an apartment complex or other commercial situation"

Either way, you can't go wrong. These govee sensors are an excellent buy. One time cost, no subscription and very useful.

Govee has been reliable for me.

These are probably good sensors too from a different manufacturer, but the pricing is no better -- if you are interested in an audible sounding alert too.
For Yolink, The audible ones are more expensive
($69 -$10 coupon is $59 for this other manufacturer).
The posted Govee deal is $49.
If you don't need the audible alert it's $45 for Yolink vs. $49 for Govee (with audible alert).
Never checked out Yolink. Seems like a similar product. Thanks for letting me know about them.

The 3 pack [amazon.com] of the 2nd gen sensors are also on sale for $35 if the 5 pack is too many.
