Gallium nitride, or GaN, is a material that's starting to be used for semiconductors in chargers. It was used to make LEDs starting in the '90s, and it's also a popular material for solar cell arrays on satellites. The main thing about GaN when it comes to chargers is that it produces less heat. "Devices like these are always telling you the total possible output. So (straight from its own manual) with one C-port in use, it's 100W, with both it splits either 30W/65W (I realize that's not 100W; I assume they do this to protect against over-draw?) or with dynamic adjustment it is 45W/45W. The A-port is always capable of outputting 12W regardless of the other ports."
