How to activate the phone from Wal-Mart with the $10 plan:
  1. Purchase phone from Wal-Mart.
  2. Go to the website corresponding to your service brand (so if you bought the Straight Talk version, go to Straight Talk, not TracFone).
  3. Click activate and select new line with a physical SIM (each phone should come pre-installed with a physical TracFone SIM).
  4. You will reach a step asking for your IMEI number. If this step gives you an error, keep reading. If this step passes and it asks for your SIM number, then skip ahead to step 8.
  5. Open a support chat window (or call) and tell them that it's giving you an error on the IMEI step. They will check and they will tell you that Wal-Mart farked up, and they will tell you to get the phone rescanned at the store. They should also offer you a second option, where you send them proof of purchase and they fix the problem from their end in 1-2 business days. If they don't give you this option, ask for it.
  6. The support agent will create a ticket number and give you an e-mail address ([email protected]) to mail the requested information (ticket number, contact information, IMEI number, proof of purchase, and photos of the bar codes on the back of the box).
  7. After sending in this information, you should get a reply in 1-2 business days saying that you can now activate your phone.
  8. Purchase the $10 TracFone airtime PIN from eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284813673959 ... the code took approximately 15 minutes to arrive after completing the purchase.
  9. Go to TracFone's website (this time, go direct to TF and not the website for the brand you bought) and open a support chat window (or call), and tell them that you have a Straight Talk phone (or whatever brand you bought) that you want to activate on TracFone. They will ask for your IMEI number, SIM number (all should be on the card inside the box), if you want to activate it as a new line (say yes), etc.
  10. Eventually, the support agent will ask if you have an airtime PIN or if you want to buy a plan with a credit card. Give them the PIN that you bought from eBay.
  11. Wait for the service to be provisioned. It took about another 20 minutes before my phone got its new phone number.
  12. Text UNLOCK to 611611 to confirm that you have an unlock date.

Alternative airtime card, if the $10 one is unavailable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284976384363

To temp unlock it for using with other carriers: (one minor change, I can't find device setup in netguard, I disabled "carrier setup" instead)

Credit to https://xdaforums.com/t/sim-unloc...t-88462425

Remove SIM card from the device. DO NOT INSERT IT UNTIL YOU FINISHED ALL THE LISTED STEPS.
Factory reset phone.
Go through OFFLINE set-up process.
Go to Settings – Apps – See All Apps.
On the three dots on the top right-hand side, tap show system.
Search – Device setup.
Tap Mobile data & Wi-Fi – deactivate Background Data.
Go back – Then "Battery" – Set to Restricted.
Go to home screen and pull screen down.
Press and hold Internet until it opens.
Select the desired Wi-Fi network and connect.
Tap on gear on the right of your connected WIFI.
Tap Network Usage – select "Treat as metered."
Go to the playstore Search "NetGuard", install it
Open NetGuard, give it unrestricted battery permissions (so it can run allways) dont worry its super safe.
Tap the three dots on netguard, settings, advanced options and enable "manage system apps"- exit netguard settings.
on netguerd main screen search "Device Setup" and disable the wifi and data communications by taping the little icons next to it
Go back to home screen and insert SIM card.
Enjoy using your unlocked device.

I have a 6a purchased a few months ago directly from Total by Verizon and it is a model GX7AS (ROW, not Verizon variant which is GB62Z). No guarantees all will be this model but maybe someone can use this info.
Once the phone is SIM unlocked, then the OEM unlocking becomes available.
I have had one of these from the Target deal last week. Seems to be a TracFone GSM model that works on Verizon 4G, with Android 13 preinstalled (have not seen it handshake to the Verizon network on 5G) But I had hoped to put alternative Android on the phone but I have been unable to get OEM unlocking / bootloader to turn on in Developer Settings menu. (Stays greyed out) If anyone had success would love to know how.

I wanted to add from own experience that you don't need to have the phone provisioned to unlock it after 60 days. All you need is to pay for one month of service, and activate the phone number line assigned to your phone via Tracfone website. In 2 month call the unlock department to get 2 unlock codes, and enter them on the phone app dial pad. It helps if you are on a trip outside oh Verizon network, so your phone can't get a provisioning code.
I read this on reddit as well. 60 days after activation vs 60 days of active service. Shoulda caught that 2 months ago, but at least it was only a $10 "loss"

Thank you so much elbee33! I did not make any calls or texts using the one month $15 Tracfone card I purchased from Target. My unlock date was today. Prior to that, I was getting messages saying my phone could not be unlocked (maybe 3-4 days?) and I should call. So I called today. Apparently, these scripted CSRs could not verify me as I did not make any outgoing texts or calls, an email address was not on file for me. They kept asking me for the same things over and over again - no room for variations or responses that deviated from their script. The only thing that passed was the PIN I set up. I was furious and frustrated. I restarted my phone and received a message that my phone was now unlocked.

Now when I went to activate right after receiving the phone, I called - the number connected to Straight Talk, not Tracfone although the number was supposed to be Tracfone. She told me I couldn't re-brand to Tracfone. Then it dawned on me after further conversation I was speaking to Straight Talk. She confirmed that and gave me Tracfone's number. Grrrr...I am so happy it worked out as I love this phone! Thank you everyone;

Activated my Tracfone plan on 12/12 with a 30-day plan. The Tracfone text said was I was eligible for unlock on 2/10 (their website previously showed I was ineligible) Currently out of the county. This morning I received a system notice that I was now unlocked and can use any carrier. Easy peasy and automatic to anyone worried out there.

For those that are curious, my (second) Pixel 6A unlocked automatically at exactly 7 a.m. EST on the 60th day after activation. My first one unlocked before 9 a.m. EST on the 60th day. Not sure if it was at 7 a.m. as I didn't get up that early on that day.

Try restarting your phone. That worked for me on my unlock date.

... I too look forward to Pixel 8a in 2 years , I love my pixel 6a for 99 dollars from walmart and is now UNLOCKED. ... Maybe in 2 years the pixel 8a it will be 99 dollars at walmart. In 1 year the pixel 7a hopefully will be 99 dollars.

Considering this pixel 6a at NEW price was 449 in 2022, and ... during Holiday the next season 2023 less than one year after launch it was 99 dollars a piece and I bought 2 of them at walmart.

... the pixel 6a NEW UNLOCKED is selling for about 350 dollars on Amazon (last time I checked). Those that got this pixel 6a for 100 is SUPER slick deal.

Done deal. Activated 30-day plan Dec 12, got my unlock date of 2/10 via text message, called the provided number 2/10. Phone unlocked. Rebooted phone, enabled "OEM Unlock" option, installed GrapheneOS. Sweet.

Did you use Magisk to root GrapheneOS?

Can you go into a little more detail. You state you were following XDA posts to ROOT your 6a. .... what method you used to root, and maybe LINK to page you found helpful.

.... you responded to GrojGuy asking him what method he used to root, so maybe both of you guys can answer with a little more details if you don't mind. I did ask a few pages back about asking experimenters that have ROOTED the device and what they are doing in root, ...that they found helpful.

Thanks guys for OPENING up the topic of ROOT and fun things to try and do with root. Let the games begin. Smilie

P.S. I would think that people wanting to root the pixel 6a ... successfully, ...want to gather info from people that have already Rooted their pixel 6a recently, and can share LINKS and pointers to us that will NOT screw up our pixel 6a! I am not interested in hearing from people that just did search on ROOTING ... but not actually done it yet.
