Target's been doing the B2G1 on D&D books for years. It's where I got most of my books from. D&D's been growing in popularity for a while now. Critical Role and a lot of other streaming content has helped. Also, D&D is an affordable, fun way to spend time with friends as the cost of entertainment keeps going up. Baldur's Gate has given them a surge, but it's part of a trend in tabletop gaming that's been happening for over a decade now.

It's crazy how popular the D&D books have become since Baldur's Gate became game of the year. Even saw them featured at Target over the weekend buy 2 get one free.

No matter how bad it gets, no one who likes DnD ever really quits. They might take a long break or quit supporting the company but no one ever really leaves DnD over those reasons

There are other options besides DnD nowadays. A lot of people have been burned too many times and wont come back after the head of the company comes out as racist.
