I'm not drinking anything that was boiled in plastic.

I have this kettle since 2019 and it has worked flawlessly. COSORI Speed-Boil Electric Tea Kettle, 1.7L Hot Water Kettle (BPA Free) 1500W Auto Shut-Off & Boil-Dry Protection, LED Indicator Inner Lid & Bottom, White https://a.co/d/j4Z0ELl

It's not slick and not a deal, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I would use the OP kettle for warming water to wash a car with.

One from Ovente was $9.92 yesterday. It's now $12. Basically the same kettle.

Probably says more about the wiring in your dwelling than anything else. Or maybe you just had too many appliances an that circuit.

I probably wouldn't trust one of these with a plastic container -- find one with either stainless steel or glass. There are so many different ones out there that overpaying is silly. Anything above ~$35 is probably too much unless it has precise controls for setting the temperature, or the design/color is especially important to you. I saw a Breville on Amazon for $140 -- that's a waste of money to boil water.

Apart from the material, the only other thing I'd recommend paying attention to is the switch. Our older one had a cheap, plastic rocker switch on the handle, and that was the failure point after a couple years. I was able to fix it once, more or less, for an additional year of use, but it eventually just crumbled. Our current one has a larger, flat paddle switch that has been going strong for several years now.

They glued the stainless steel bottom and the glass wall together. I don't know if the glue would contact the water. I also have experiences that the bottom simply fell off for kettles like this. Not a good design IMO.
