The Genius Bar reset it back to factory didn't even charge me for the full wipe

They can fix it
Yup. Really interested in the stats once I am able to set it up. Worst case I will return it.

So Genius Bar wiped it. But it still remains in DEMO mode.

thats crazy! so apple should just send you a new unit I reckon. right?

I had 4 repaired keyboards on my 12 inch MacBook, they let me swap it for a brand new one, using my original MSRP of that value laptop.

not same for same, but if you ask apple 1800 number, get them to send you a new one in exchange, as you already wasted time goin to the bar. it may work

maybe they would even let you change it there.. would be awesome for m2 ,model.

let me ask, do you find the 16 inch to large? thinking of buying a 16 inch on sale to compliment my 14 inch or swapping personally

Not to doubt the Genius Bar, but some Google Fu shows that a full reinstall of the OS from recovery mode should "fix" this…. However, that info was about 2 years old, so who knows

The 16" was a big jump, and if I needed it for travel, not sure that would work. For my home use and taking to work it is manageable. The real estate on the screen seems to be worth the slightly larger backpack needed to transport it, but it's still new, so maybe that will get old too. If you haven't looked at / held the 16", see if you can head to a store and check it out in person.

They have taken the laptop in their possession for now. They are trying to get the registered "demo" serial number removed from back end database. Will find out on Monday/Tuesday now. If they are unsuccessful they asked me to contact woot for either exchange or refund.

I was in the market for 14 inch but since 16 inch was same price as that of 14inch I got the 16inch. Weight was not a preference for me. Personally I do not find it too large.

see. my first MacBook was 12 inch, then air intel, then another air intel, then another air m1, then I just got my first 14 inch MBP. but I got a great deal imo. 14 inch M1 Pro m1, 16gb, 512gb for 1024, silver. I got two of them one for me and gf.

but FOMO is getting to me, a little. I see open box 16 inch 1tb units for like 1300sh going in and out of stock, but they also have 10 core cpu, and 16gpu, when mine has 8 core and 14 gpu. and double space for like 300 more. but its also 2 inches bigger

I only use mine at home, and if I do travel, it's literally to work. no big deal in traveling. but I use it on my lap, and on my arm of couch. I play video games, via steam/parallels/and playstation remote. (I use the plyaistaiton remote thing for my ps5) and I play on couch w laptop, while listen and watch anime. the ps5 is literally unhooked from HDMI now because every time I turn it on, it turned tv on to game screen.

im using the MacBook as ps5 essentially. its great.

I sold my m1 air 256gb for 600, and my 3050ti lenovo legion for 560, and it literally paid for this laptop in full as a trade. worth it. but should I spend 200-300 more if alotted for double space, more screen, more gpu and cpu? im at a real dilemma. ( I bought the lenovo legion 5 for 360, 400 after tax from Walmart clearance) and sold year later for more than I paid for it. fricken sweet.

apple will make you right I am sure.

one last comment. that 12 inch MacBook Pro, I mentioned earlier, I bought it on open box from Best Buy for like 900, it had 4 keyboard replacements, apple said we will put its 1199 cost towards any MacBook, so I bought a intel air, lol. then I got an email later saying I am receiving 395 from the settlement for my MacBook. kinda neat.

one issue im having, parallels 19, I paid 80 bucks for it. im happy, I got final fantasy 7, with 7th heaven mods working, ff9 moguri mods working, and ffx and ffx2 working perfect. but ff8 remastered, will not work, and ff8 non remastered, is going like 10x speed and such.

crappy but no big deal. still worth it to have some playable games when I do security at work (I do 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week for 2-3 weeks sometimes) and make bank. but I get bored.

WHICH IS ANOTHER REASON IM CONSIDERING 16 inch...

or should I just buy a 14 and 16.... mmmmmm but then id have to buy parallels again. or, just put parallels on the 16 inch and remove it off the 14 inch entirely. because I got a great deal on the 14 inch, treat it like an air, and use 16 as gaming rig.

or save my money, buy a m2 pro 16 on clearance next Black Friday like this deal.

on a serious note, the 8gpu 14cpu, 512/16gb I have is legit perfect as 90% of my time im just web browsing, so I get great power, great battery life and such. I think I eventually will get a 14 + 16 inch. transfer this parallel license over to 16 inch if I ever get one. but I should probably go for a m2 pro or max if I do, so I can at least get optimal power for emulating games eventually.

I mean, I paid 1100 out the door for this. thats the same price as the m2 air. I love it too.

if I want a refurbished MacBook Pro 16 inch, with 5600m radeon 8gb card from Microcenter one day, next year or something on massive sale. I may buy it, because it supports bootcamp.

Serious question this or the current 14" M3 pro deal $1499 with 16 gb ram and 512gb hr. Yes it is M3 non-pro chip but they are saying it will outperform M1 pro for most things? Extra years of software support. Not a super heavy user.

FYI, I just received my laptop today.
Battery cycles 2
Kb/t xfrs MB
21.06 152847 3142.21
For warranty, I login in mysupport.apple.com, choose the laptop. Apple let me input the purchase date, then agent called me. I uploaded the screenshot of woot order, and edited the Serial number on this screenshot. Agent told me everything is in progressing now. I will receive a confirmation email.

Regarding your bad luck with the demo mode, it seems you are not the only one. See the following video:

Either will suit you. How much more? If 200? I'd buy it. Costco I think deal you referring too has 2 year warranty

Edit nvm Costco is 8gb. Me personally both are overkill. So get whatever you feel better about budget wise. Both will do you fine for years to come
