I also purchased the TCL 4 Series for $228 and it looks and sounds great. I was looking at QLED TV's at Costco yesterday and really could not see a big difference with my TV. For $228 you can't beat that TV.

There has always been a pretty big difference from the 4 to the 5 series. 4 is the bottom of the barrel for their former 4k lineup.

Are you expecting better from a sub $400 TV?

What's the difference between the R646, which has very good reviews, and this S646. I can't seem to find any info about the S646.

How is this compared to tcl 6 series which has mini led? Grabbed a 75" but other than size whats a noticeable gain?

Im not 100% sure but I believe it's a Walmart exclusive version of the R646. Basically, Walmart has such pricing power and scale that manufacturers often produce a cheapened SKU of their product that is solely for Walmart. It sure would make some sense because the R646 has been out for years and all of a sudden Walmart had a massive number of units for a BF sale that appear to be the R646 but with the S646 model. I genuinely hope that I'm wrong for the sake of all the SDers here but that's what I think. Try searching for the S646...doubt there is anything to be found that isn't for the R646. That was my experience yesterday.

Same. Not enough of a difference for me to care. I did come from a 1080p LG though, so the new tv looks much better.

6 series is mini LED with local dimming and 120 hz refresh rate. Also much brighter for HDR content. So for HDR movies and console gaming 6 series is preferred.
