Source: I owned 3 routers. When wirelessly meshed the 2 Ethernet points are active so you can wire in a device if needed. I eventually used the 3 in an Ethernet backhaul.

This is completely false.
Routers can connect to routers or points.
I have 3 routers and 1 point and they all work fine together.
I already have the set but it sucks so thinking about adding 2nd router but the first is going into a switch as it only had 1out port...

More than likely, yes. But it depends on the connection between it and the main router.

The frequency has definitely slowed down: https://support.google.
Only 1 update in the past 13 months or so. But it is rather old so I imagine its just security updates from here on. That said my nest wifi has been flawless for the past 3 years.
