I don't recommend google hardware anymore. They can't be trusted. I had the older model which won't let me update settings anymore. It still works, but you cannot do anything about it: https://support.google.com/google...r/11257354
Incorrect. You can setup extra routers as points.
Source: I owned 3 routers. When wirelessly meshed the 2 Ethernet points are active so you can wire in a device if needed. I eventually used the 3 in an Ethernet backhaul.
Looks like amazon has it for $65. This is the wifi 5, not the wifi 6 version.

JUNK. I gave these the benefit of the doubt, but they always had issues.

I have two of these routers. One is set up as a point. Have no issues. About 30 devices connected. Half are IOT home devices, the rest computers, tvs, phones.

Routers are NOT points. You cannot interchange them with this version. The OG you could do that but not on these. You need one router and then multiple points to attach to them.

This is completely false.

Routers can connect to routers or points.

I have 3 routers and 1 point and they all work fine together.

Can I connect this from a switch?

I already have the set but it sucks so thinking about adding 2nd router but the first is going into a switch as it only had 1out port...

Shahhere

From the main router behind the modem, you can hook a switch and then 2 other routers.

If I buy this, use it as a point, and connect my xbox to it via Ethernet will the internet be faster?

More than likely, yes. But it depends on the connection between it and the main router.

The only two (three?) onhub routers were made by third parties (asus and TPLink IIRC) and they were made a LONG time ago. I think dropping support for those routers is acceptable. Heck you say yourself it still functions you just cant change settings, Time to upgrade for more coverage and speed. I don't even know if they could have continued software updates to keep up with security. A bit different than if you installed a smart door lock that stops working one day

It's been forever since Google updated the firmware, hence they have issues that haven't been fixed.

I agree, they just killed their nest security system as well. It will be discontinued early next year and becomes a brick. At least they're still letting you use the older router (who knows for how much longer)

The frequency has definitely slowed down: https://support.google.com/google...0967?hl=en

Only 1 update in the past 13 months or so. But it is rather old so I imagine its just security updates from here on. That said my nest wifi has been flawless for the past 3 years.

I don't think so. I had the original TP-Link made Onhub and it was excellent up until Google told me support was ending. There is no end user reason why Google had to do it. WiFi 5 is still a common standard most people use. It had zero issues on my network. Changing network equipment for seemingly no reason is aggravating and forced EOL in the age of climate change is wild.
