I guess it's relative, but the amount of time and effort to do this sounds way too much. Hauling the washer back, disassembling, and then you have the headache of needing to dispose of all the leftover material. Throw in some money for metal stands/legs (because not all of us have these just laying around), how much are you actually saving once you consider everything? Also aesthetically, I'm sure the Solo Stove looks better than what 90% of people will build.

It's really not that big a deal. I bought one at this price last summer when it went on sale, I can get through 4- 5 fires without having to clean out as the wood burns to fine ash which one person can pickup and dump out. I finish up with a shop vac and it's a piece of cake.

I'd pull the trigger if you're thinking about it, heck it's Costco return it if you don't like it after you buy.

Get a handle and carry it to a place, such as a garden, a field, or a lawn, and flip it upside down. Done. I usually collect the ash as fertilizer. As long as you don't burn plastics, it's safe to use

I've bought two Solo Stoves last year as Christmas presents on a slickdeal. Both came with large dents directly from Solo Stove. Solo Stove has no interest in exchanges - just return for purchase credit or refund, at which time the sale is usually over so you can't buy another one for the same price. Had to eat the extra because they were gifts.

I'd only buy one of these in person going forward, but given it's Costco not sure how they'd handle it.

The ones they sell in store come with bag, cover, and stand (i think) but I think those are bonfire.

Fwiw I'm pretty sure there are similar stove on Amazon... For much cheaper....of course Solo stove is probably the best and is what I have.

I'm on the fence on this one also. Actually saw it's still the same price from Black Friday/ Cyber Monday. The newer models have better features but I doubt they'll come down significantly in price. The base that's included is an awesome but it'll be a PITA to clean the ashes without the removable tray.

I was ready to poo-poo this guy's suggestion too, but I found some pictures online and they actually can look pretty good.

That's nice looking but doesn't have the same smokeless design, just a bunch of holes everywhere rather than at the bottom feeding up to the top inside. I've been using a cast iron chiminea for the past 5 years in my backyard, and once it heats up after 20 minutes, it gives off heat like a pot belly stove. Main downside of this is that it's next to impossible to move and is why I got this Solo stove that I can place anywhere in my backyard. With Costco's return policy, will give this a try.

I had the bonfire 1.0 it's not bad just more work to empty the ash. The 2.0 just makes it easier to clean but not worth the price difference.
