If you're in CA - you're allowed to submit what's called a trial by declaration to fight your ticket. Essentially, you submit your version of events to the judge, who notifies the officer to do the same - and then the judge reviews both declarations from you and the officer and makes a final decision.

This works in getting your ticket dismissed more often if you follow a couple of steps. First, make sure you make your traffic stops is not a memorable one for the officer - keys on dash, sunglasses/hat off, hands on wheel, windows down, "good morning/afternoon/night officer... yes officer, no officer," etc... do not fight him/her on anything and just sign for the ticket and go about your day. 2 weeks before your court date - extend your ticket/push court date out (you can initially push it 3 months). 2 weeks before your new court date, CALL the courthouse and make up an excuse why you can't make it for your court date (surprise work trip, family member sick, etc...) The court clerk will ask you what's the next best date for you - try to push it out another 3 months. Now you're 6 months out from your initial court date - start working on your trial by dec. and make sure the court receives it 2 weeks before your court date. Now this extends the process by about another month, as now the judge will ask the officer to respond and will give him/her 30 days to do so. However, so much time has now passed that the cop won't care about sticking it to you/taking the time out of his/her busy day to write a response - you were not a dick, you were not memorable, and it's whatever. So most likely the judge will dismiss your ticket. If the judge does not dismiss and rules in favor of the officer if they did reply - then you have an option to ask for a trial de novo - an in person trial - and you and the officer both have to go in. Hopefully in that case, so much time has now passed that the officer will most likely not show up, and if he does, then judge will rule in their favor and you can ask for a reduced fine/traffic school to reduce the severity of whatever consequence you may face. Lots of info on this online. I've gotten 8 of mine dismissed and 5 of my friends/family members' tickets here in LA county. Good luck!

A speeding ticket will run you $250-300 in fines and then your insurance will shoot up for 3 years too.

At over $600 with tax, why not just not speed?

Seems this could pay for more than a few speeding tickets anyway.

Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Wouldn't an app on your phone serve this purpose better and cheaper? I remember back in the 80s these being useful. But I've had google maps tell me to slow down before coming up to a group clocking people.
An app is going to rely on others inputting the data. That would not nearly be real time or catch every trap.

Any idea how this (or even the 360 max) is compared to escort 9500ix? I think last I read, 2-3 years back, the 9500ix still did quite well compared to the newer stuff.

I feel like I'm still comparing it to like sub $100 detectors, so it seems pretty great, but also could be much better.
No, but check out @Vortex Radar on YouTube. He compares all of them.

Remember when these were $129 (Uniden DFR7)?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Yeah, we all use Waze. But there are plenty of times where a speed trap isn't marked. Or the cop is driving on the road. I've had cops on the other side of the interstate clock me (cop is actively driving). Got pulled over that way once.

Is it worth buying the 2-4 year (~$50-75) extended warranty?
...for those with the R8 or different Uniden models, are these prone to going out? Only 1 year warranty from manufacturer.

Another point, Chase 5% category is paypal this quarter, so about $30 cash back there

In the most recent 20% off at Amazon Warehouse, a "Used-very good" R8 was around $475. $550 is a good price for new though.
I picked one up via this 20% warehouse deal for $468 used like new. Figured that was as cheap as I'd get one and Amazon warehouse stuff has always been in great shape for me in the past.
