If you're in CA - you're allowed to submit what's called a trial by declaration to fight your ticket. Essentially, you submit your version of events to the judge, who notifies the officer to do the same - and then the judge reviews both declarations from you and the officer and makes a final decision.

This works in getting your ticket dismissed more often if you follow a couple of steps. First, make sure you make your traffic stops is not a memorable one for the officer - keys on dash, sunglasses/hat off, hands on wheel, windows down, "good morning/afternoon/night officer... yes officer, no officer," etc... do not fight him/her on anything and just sign for the ticket and go about your day. 2 weeks before your court date - extend your ticket/push court date out (you can initially push it 3 months). 2 weeks before your new court date, CALL the courthouse and make up an excuse why you can't make it for your court date (surprise work trip, family member sick, etc...) The court clerk will ask you what's the next best date for you - try to push it out another 3 months. Now you're 6 months out from your initial court date - start working on your trial by dec. and make sure the court receives it 2 weeks before your court date. Now this extends the process by about another month, as now the judge will ask the officer to respond and will give him/her 30 days to do so. However, so much time has now passed that the cop won't care about sticking it to you/taking the time out of his/her busy day to write a response - you were not a dick, you were not memorable, and it's whatever. So most likely the judge will dismiss your ticket. If the judge does not dismiss and rules in favor of the officer if they did reply - then you have an option to ask for a trial de novo - an in person trial - and you and the officer both have to go in. Hopefully in that case, so much time has now passed that the officer will most likely not show up, and if he does, then judge will rule in their favor and you can ask for a reduced fine/traffic school to reduce the severity of whatever consequence you may face. Lots of info on this online. I've gotten 8 of mine dismissed and 5 of my friends/family members' tickets here in LA county. Good luck!

A speeding ticket will run you $250-300 in fines and then your insurance will shoot up for 3 years too.

If you drive in so some city speed limit of 35mph and you are doing 45mph, there is your ticket, you do the math.
I go with the flow of traffic.. math pretty simple. I don't lead the pack. And I usually don't do 10mph, I live in a state where i know better.

Going with the flow doesn't matter, I seen cops pull 3-4 cars at once.

I found that unicorn at Best Buy about 1 1/2 years ago, it didn't last long. I have not seen it that low since.
I did too. I still have it. I also have my old uniden r3 from 2017. Love these things

I had R8, returned for r4. Bigger screen was nice, but the arrows don't seem worth the extra $ to me, especially considering the extra bulk. If it's going off you slow down no matter what direction.

R3 still a solid option too.

Can't wait for you to get a ticket with your attitude. Why come and comment on this thread if you just want to complain about the product?

Solid detector, especially because the only downside is perhaps it's "too" sensitive. Bought one of these when it came out, also have an R4 and used to have the R7. The R8 at this price is a no-brainer. The Escort Redline is supposedly less chatty (with slightly less range) but doesn't seem to budget from the $799 price. $550 seems like a solid deal for this. Biggest downside of the R4 is the lack of arrows, it's extremely helpful to be able to see where the perceived threat is coming from.

I do have some regret for missing out on the very short-lived double dip where they lowered the price to $550 AND had the coupon.

So dumb and a waste of money. Will never work in the following scenario:
Cop is running radar late at night. He is in position with his radar unit off (that's what most do when truly trying to catch speeders). A vehicle pops over the hill doing the speed limit. Officers can tell he's not speeding so he keeps his radar turned off.
A few seconds later another car comes flying over the hill (his detector has never warned him of anything because radar is still turned off). Officer sees vehicle and KNOWS that he is speeding. Officer turns on his vehicle radar unit by a remote and immediately gets your speed. At the same exact time, the radar detector suddenly goes off that radar is nearby.
Ticket.
If one is looking at it in the sense that it will guarantee warn one with enough time in all scenarios, then yes-- that is dumb and it would be a total waste of money for one. I try not to speed but if someone was going to on a regular basis I would hope that they would make an exception for this uncommon scenario and not be going fast enough to get a ticket while flying over a hill in the dark with no other speeding cars in front of them. Besides being recklessly dangerous, that is just careless and cocky.

Police officers in my area leave their KA running constantly. If they are QT/IO'ing people, it ain't gonna be on the roads I drive on. And POP tickets don't fly in court. Moot since I don't have one anymore but I do miss my RD for speed traps alone. Texas has a lot of towns where speed limit drops VERY quickly.

So many false alerts nowadays, that you can't remember and block with GPS since it's from other cars' blind spot monitoring and collision avoidance and drive assist systems. I know it explicitly calls out that it can filter out "most of those" but I'm doubtful

They are very good at filtering, my V1 Gen 1 filters nearly everything, I can imagine 5+ years newer tech is just as capable with improved range.

I'm not judging but a friend asked me (yeah, I do have friends. well just one but I digress)...

is there any lawful purpose to these devices if you don't illegally speed?
Yes actually, I was somewhere out west driving at night. Maybe LA or surrounding, lots of winding freeway exchanges, roads were flowing quickly. Approaching a blind tight downhill right hander at speed limit when RD goes off with known police frequency so I maintain speed limit with friendly reminder. Turns out there was a fresh crash (not on waze) on the right hand side, and the responding officer left his radar on and it helped me approach safely well before I could see what had occurred.

Same with work zones, typically my V1 Gen 1 will pick up parked state police with their radars on, well before I see an active work zone.

You have an R1? Or which are you referring to?

I dont have a Uniden but have heard lots of good things about them.

I have the Valentine 1 Gen 1, the last release before they switched to the Gen 2, so its a bit dated at this point, but still filters very well. I believe newer models maintain good filtering but now have increased range/response time to real hits while actively filtering out the noise.
