If you're in CA - you're allowed to submit what's called a trial by declaration to fight your ticket. Essentially, you submit your version of events to the judge, who notifies the officer to do the same - and then the judge reviews both declarations from you and the officer and makes a final decision.

This works in getting your ticket dismissed more often if you follow a couple of steps. First, make sure you make your traffic stops is not a memorable one for the officer - keys on dash, sunglasses/hat off, hands on wheel, windows down, "good morning/afternoon/night officer... yes officer, no officer," etc... do not fight him/her on anything and just sign for the ticket and go about your day. 2 weeks before your court date - extend your ticket/push court date out (you can initially push it 3 months). 2 weeks before your new court date, CALL the courthouse and make up an excuse why you can't make it for your court date (surprise work trip, family member sick, etc...) The court clerk will ask you what's the next best date for you - try to push it out another 3 months. Now you're 6 months out from your initial court date - start working on your trial by dec. and make sure the court receives it 2 weeks before your court date. Now this extends the process by about another month, as now the judge will ask the officer to respond and will give him/her 30 days to do so. However, so much time has now passed that the cop won't care about sticking it to you/taking the time out of his/her busy day to write a response - you were not a dick, you were not memorable, and it's whatever. So most likely the judge will dismiss your ticket. If the judge does not dismiss and rules in favor of the officer if they did reply - then you have an option to ask for a trial de novo - an in person trial - and you and the officer both have to go in. Hopefully in that case, so much time has now passed that the officer will most likely not show up, and if he does, then judge will rule in their favor and you can ask for a reduced fine/traffic school to reduce the severity of whatever consequence you may face. Lots of info on this online. I've gotten 8 of mine dismissed and 5 of my friends/family members' tickets here in LA county. Good luck!

A speeding ticket will run you $250-300 in fines and then your insurance will shoot up for 3 years too.

Great price for someone looking for the R8. I'm just hunting for the unicorn $350 R7 deal if it ever comes back

You all still have cops doing radar? I can barely see a cop these days, and Waze provides enough warning for places I frequent.

Nice, I upgraded from an Escort Passport max to a uniden r8 over the summer for $699 no tax. No regrets, it's been the best radar experience I've had and I'm still not done applying recommended changes from the forums. Highway Radar blows escort live out of the water.

Also, get the blend mount and power cord taps. I had an aftermarket cheaper mirror mount with the escort and feel the blend mount is worth the premium. With a Ford, not having to manually power the radar detector on and off with an always hot 12v outlet is so convenient.
Is the Uniden R8 loud enough? I feel like I can't hear my escort passport 360 max..

I found that unicorn at Best Buy about 1 1/2 years ago, it didn't last long. I have not seen it that low since.
I got lucky with that deal but I've saved so much money on tickets, it's well worth it to get this one if you think you need it

The southeast is packed with cops. Once drove across the US from Washington state to GA. Saw 1 cop from Washington state to Tennessee then 20+ from Tennessee to central GA. My r7 goes off at least once for ka band every time I drive.

I'm asking this because these comments indicate all of you are very familiar with this product line. I use waze for navigation and indirectly as a detector. I feel like it does a pretty good job warning, since so many people use it, and I can't really think of times a cop wasn't flagged. Haven't got a ticket while using the app. Just curious if u guys also use waze and if you find you need both for various reasons. I think the double verification would be good, since sometimes they aren't there anymore when I drive by.

I have 2 radar detectors laying around from the 90s, are police using newer technology?

Isn't it true by the type the radar picks up the speed gun it's too late?
