Can this be used for outdoors?
Lol I'm wondering also.. How long do the batteries last on these? And what's the max/min temp range?

My LG fridge, specifically the freezer, tends to not want to stay cold (whether its too packed, or some ziplock bag is angled at just the wrong way) and causes the freezer to warm up to the teens before I know. I've purchased something similar on amazon a while back and has been working well. I just wish the model I bought off amazon was smart and alerted me by phone instead of an audible alert. Not sure why smart fridges like the LG don't already have something like this built in. Annoying that I have to resort to something like this to monitor temps.

Good price. I have an AcuRite digital premium [amazon.com] and this looks like a rebrand of that.
Same here, I have two.

I use the Acurite branded ones on 2 fridges and a chest freezer in my garage. Works great to keep an eye on current temps and temp history.

I'm using something similar; I think I get 2-3 years out of the AA batteries in both the fridge and freezer, as long as they are alkaline.

This device has saved me a few times when my fridge or freezer door, for some reason, didn't fully close, and temperatures started to climb.

Also, knowing the temperature of my fridge/freezer during a power outage gives me a good idea of when I might need to pull out the generator if the fridge/freezer starts to get too warm without opening the door to check.

As Vladstar noted, there are many reasons a refrigerator or freezer can fail. Two years back the fan motor on my main refrigerator/freezer failed. As we use it daily, we noticed the temperature was not cool enough. I obtained a new fan motor and did not lose anything in the unit. A few months later our secondary upright freezer in our basement failed. We lost a couple thousand dollars worth of meat. I purchased one of these thermometers online, placed one sensor in my basement freezer and the second in my main freezer. Now every time I walk by I can see both freezers are working correctly. It has particularly been helpful in power outages. This feels like insurance to me.
Couple thousand dollars worth of meat! Is that average American's fridge? Sorry, I'm from South Asia, this is beyond my imagination.

Anyway to do this with Google Assistant or Alexa? I'e got a few of these non digital sensors around and would love to get alerts from them too.

Quote from VladStar :
People want to get alerts when the temperature is not within a range where it supposed to be, to avoid throwing the food away. Can happen due to number of reasons - partially closed door, accidentally unplugged power cord, flipped breaker, broken compressor etc.

I personally use Acurite. My Home Assistant has SDR USB stick that listens 433MHz channel and decodes messages sent by Acurite sensors. Automation will text me when the temp is outside of the defined range.

Thanks. I've had multiple outages in the last year so this will give me some peace of mind.
