The most noticeable difference will be the difference between the non-laminated (10th gen. iPad) and the laminated (5th gen. iPad Air) displays. The latter is noticeably sharper, but at the same time gives me an eye strain that I don't with the standard iPad. Experience will vary, so I'd play around with each in the stores before buying.

As for the difference in the processor, iPad OS isn't exactly the best at taking advantage of the M1. They don't feel zippy in the same way the M1 does in MacBooks. Unless you really want Stage Manager I wouldn't make it a major deciding factor.

Given the size of updates, I don't think 64GB is a good size, constantly have to delete and reinstall larger apps when there is a major update with this size and will get more storage next time.

Well, the $130 extra is getting you: -one generation better chipset, 1GB more RAM, USB-C, and more modern bezel design. But you are losing the headphone jack and paying $130 more. So up to you.

M1 air should have it. Just make sure you go with much higher storage.

How does the os work with external storage? Are apps able to use USB storage seamlessly or is there a lot of manual file moving? I'm specifically interested in music apps like GarageBand. Thanks.

I wish they offered this in 128GB like the Pro models 64GB is not enough for many users unless you have minimal apps and don't have much pictures. 256GB option is nice but not $150 nice. At that point I'd just rather get a Pro model with standard 128GB storage for $699. It would be a sweet deal if these were being sold with 128GB storage at $399 that's a sweet spot.

Too much for 64gb and the limited RAM will have Safari constantly reloading webpages. Even Amazon Fire tablets aren't this bad at web browsing.

I've been using an iPad Air 2 (assume that mine is laminated) and noticed that when you press on the newer non-laminated iPads that it feels hollow. The taps feel different.

This will be the sale price probably until Christmas. Next year it may go back down several times but I've seen these bump back up similar to what Target did for BF.

that's strategically staged like that. it's a pricing ladder. Apple wants us to climb and reach at the top to pay them extra to support their investors & company valuation of $2,975,000,000,000

It doesn't work with external storage except for moving files like photos off the iPad.

64gb is laughable for for mid range tablet.
