This or the 9th generation iPad from Best Buy for $220 from a couple days ago?
Well, the $130 extra is getting you: -one generation better chipset, 1GB more RAM, USB-C, and more modern bezel design. But you are losing the headphone jack and paying $130 more. So up to you.

Thanks. Too bad that iPad Pro from Iowa state did not ship. I'll probably keep that 9th generation one.

Definitely upgrade IMO, just the design alone is enough to justify for me especially if you are spending time with it.

I just picked up a 5th gen air for $499 for my daughter to replace her 7th gen iPad. Now I am wondering if this is a better deal.

I initially felt the M1 was a huge numb from the A14 Bionic. Now I am not so sure. Not to mention I will need the 2nd gen pencil for the air.

I am in a quandary. Is the 5th gen air worth $150 than this?

Given the size of updates, I don't think 64GB is a good size, constantly have to delete and reinstall larger apps when there is a major update with this size and will get more storage next time.
And that's the whole point. Apple wants to make the cheapest option so bad in the way of storage that you buy a much more expensive version. That's also why they don't do 128GB versions. You have to pay significantly more for storage that hardly costs them anything.

This vs M1 ipad air?
The only real difference you will see in performance is if your using davinci resolve on the iPad for video editing, then the M1 will be noticeably faster
