I'm on my second pair of these. They are very durable and comfortable. The newest version runs a little narrower in the toe box than they used to be. They are also heavy, so if you want lightweight hikers then may want something else. I use them mainly for fall/winter use. Waterproofing is excellent. You won't find a better boot in this category for anything close to $99.

If you're looking for reviews, Amazon [amazon.com] has some.

REI's standard shipping should be free.

I have these, they are good quality, but make sure you wear socks that cushion well, since these boots don't have almost any cushioning inside.

Another review from GearLab:
https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/re...ias-fg-gtx
The biggest issue they mention is that they are heavy, almost 3 lbs. Heavy boots are not good for hiking unless you want to give your legs an extra workout. On Amazon, the reviews indicate that the boots are not durable.

Also I find it suspicious that REI has them on clearance but has no reviews. It's like they only started selling them now.

REI offers easy returns if needed. I think this price is super slick. Smilie

These are one of my favorite shoes. Comfortable but very durable. These are not your standard day hike type of shoes. They are built more for multi day or light mountaineering. You can use them for a day hike but they are a little heavy. I usually wear mine double socked and wide so my foot doesn't feel so squeezed in for a long day, also helps with preventing blisters.

I wore mine up Mt Shasta 4 times now and at least 2 regular 3 day backpacking trips.

That's why I quoted gearlab also. Reddit talks about the brand, and it matters. A word to the wise.

Is that a **** swinging contest? Do you have better alternatives to offer to make it productive? We all are open to hear what's on the market. I've been hiking for years, like many here, and this brand have great reviews and customer services. Not so much about Salomon these days - which I also own. Happy to hear pro & cons

fwiw, my prior Vasque boots and approach shoes were both SUPER narrow. I'm not sure if that's still their thing, but it felt like footbinding. I wear normal, not even wide.
