Same content. Everything is microtransactions to level or you have to spend 10s of 100s of hours to progress to level up your character. Pretty much a pay-to-win game that's prevalent on mobile titles. Gacha game mechanics for cards. Netcode is terrible still where you will try to play with others online and clients and server are desync'd like crazy where inputs are delayed or don't register at all. It's just a cash grab at this point.

Unlike Madden, the actual gameplay in this game is solid. I get it for less than $30 every year, sell it in June for about $20, and don't spend a penny on microtransactions. $10 for a 7 month rental and roster update is fine for me. Once I even got the digital Switch version for $4. I play MyLeague and couch vs. I dont play any of the card-based modes or MyCareer. I dont understand the hate.

I agree with all the comments about how 2K has made this franchise a cash cow... "IF" you buy it to just play online. There are a big amount of people, like me, that buy this game to play with their family members at home or more importantly, by themselves. They just create a player and focus most of their time on the and franchise mode. For those people, the game is good, it is not trash.
It all depends why and how you want to play it. Having said that, they have been doing almost nothing to this game in years to really improve it. Most of the changes go to game modes they use to monetize online players.

It's not the same content. If you're a fan of Kobe, then you get the Kobe challenge from his famous moments games. Last year was MJ.
