These from Target, BB, etc. come with 1 year manufacturer warranty plus extended warranty from your credit card. If there's some widespread issue, like there is for WF-1000XM4, Sony may still replace/repair your headphones after the 1 year warranty is expired. It's been hit for miss with people with the XM4 earbuds.
Extended warranty will vary by company. I've read some really bad experiences from people with Chase cards who tried to file claims with Asurion, and got the runaround. Amex extended warranty claims usually go a lot smoother.
Secondpity refurbs come with 2 year Allstate warranty, which is mostly painless from what I've seen. I also went through it myself with my refurbed XM4 earbuds.
If it were me, I would just keep those secondpity ones if they looked like new. They're cheaper and I personally have faith in the Allstate warranty after my own experience.
I use the XM4s daily. I don't mind the battery life but I'm more interested in even better ANC.
One thing I found annoying is that you can only select ANC or Ambient Sound, while previous models also had an "Off" mode where ANC is off and you're not getting pumped-in ambient sound.
edit: I use a gaming laptop with a single combined input/output 3.5mm port.
for the xm4's (the prev gen of these) i dont think i could have played games with these on bluetooth. didn't try wired though.
Not sure about the xm5's but wanted to give my input
I'm holding out for the XM6's 😀
I am not sure how many people used XM3 for 10-11 hours daily for 3 years....so I am not sure I can blame Sony for quality but everything else works well (including battery life is still pretty good). I hate XM5 don't fold but the target return policy is decent (maybe extended for the holiday season). At the moment we don't know if XM6 will be foldable or not.
