I'd say no. The XM6s should come out next summer so you may want to wait. I imagine there will be minor improvements all around for the XM6s plus an answer to Bose's surround sound that you can use with any app. There will likely be enough new changes to justify an upgrade from XM4 to XM6

Bought mine refurb from secondpity about 3 weeks ago for $20 less and am still able to return them. Not sure if I should.
The warranty is something to consider.

These from Target, BB, etc. come with 1 year manufacturer warranty plus extended warranty from your credit card. If there's some widespread issue, like there is for WF-1000XM4, Sony may still replace/repair your headphones after the 1 year warranty is expired. It's been hit for miss with people with the XM4 earbuds.
Extended warranty will vary by company. I've read some really bad experiences from people with Chase cards who tried to file claims with Asurion, and got the runaround. Amex extended warranty claims usually go a lot smoother.

Secondpity refurbs come with 2 year Allstate warranty, which is mostly painless from what I've seen. I also went through it myself with my refurbed XM4 earbuds.

If it were me, I would just keep those secondpity ones if they looked like new. They're cheaper and I personally have faith in the Allstate warranty after my own experience.

For those who own the XM4 and XM5, is it worth upgrading? From what I've read the differences are minimal going up to the XM5. I love my XM4s. I use them a lot and wish the battery life was a little longer, but they are the best over the ear headphones I've owned.
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going to wait for the XM6.

I use the XM4s daily. I don't mind the battery life but I'm more interested in even better ANC.

People's main gripe with these is that they don't fold up, right?

One thing I found annoying is that you can only select ANC or Ambient Sound, while previous models also had an "Off" mode where ANC is off and you're not getting pumped-in ambient sound.

I want one for gaming. Can I plug the V-Moda BoomPro into it as an external mic while still getting stereo audio?

edit: I use a gaming laptop with a single combined input/output 3.5mm port.

for the xm4's (the prev gen of these) i dont think i could have played games with these on bluetooth. didn't try wired though.

Not sure about the xm5's but wanted to give my input

Interesting. My XM3's have been with me for well over 500k miles in the air and having no issues. That's a shame yours are having issues.

I'm holding out for the XM6's 😀
Yeah disappointed but ANC is a very important feature.

I am not sure how many people used XM3 for 10-11 hours daily for 3 years....so I am not sure I can blame Sony for quality but everything else works well (including battery life is still pretty good). I hate XM5 don't fold but the target return policy is decent (maybe extended for the holiday season). At the moment we don't know if XM6 will be foldable or not.

I have the XM3 and got the XM5's a couple weeks ago. They have their advantages but it's all about what's most important to you. I'm pretty shocked that the sound quality is better on the XM3. Depends on your priorities...

Sound isn't any different from previous models. They don't fold and you have to take a bulky case with you if you travel. Touch controls are wonky in cold weather or when it's wet. When you are working out it's easy to touch it with part of an arm for it to think that it was a press of the button.
This. I can't stand the capacitive touch on the sony. Constantly press it when doing any weight lifting activity or even when laying in bed and adjusting or reaching for a light, or any other maneuvers that accidentally bring your arm next to the headphone. Before you know it, you have reset the entire move to the beginning.

Just bought the Beats Pros during the Thanksgiving sale from Best Buy. Returning them for these for a slight price bump and a greater quality bump. Thanks OP. $276 after taxes. Paypal with Chase Freedom Flex for 5% back.
I would keep the Beats pro or at the very least watch some comparison videos . Lots of pros and cons on both

In store, or online? Just wondering. Online chat for me was useless as always.

Amazing deal. XM5s have been the best headphones I've used (non-enthusiast) from doing everything well. Noise cancelling, sound quality, comfort, etc... Well balanced headset.

I wanted to try these to see if the ear cups are larger than the Beats Pro. I have to keep adjusting the Beats Pro to reduce ear pinching.
